yeah all true. Just having trouble letting it all go. Can't put my finger on it. I found it easy to like Pagan... Maybe that's the trouble. Put my faith and trust into an outsider and he broke my heart and nearly my club. Like a dog beaten as a pup, can't trust anymore

I enjoy having a coach who knows how to handle the media.

He has a clear understanding of who he is and what he brings to the table. Carlton knew what they were getting when they hired him. The players will be left in no doubt what is expected of them and he will expect them to deliver and be successful. He has been tested at the toughest time and proven successful. He is the ultimate professional and I for one am pleased that he is at our club and will give firm direction and add great value to what we do. Bring it on!

I can relate to the hesitation in embracing Malthouse.

Being from WA and loathing West Coast, I pretty much hated him for a decade.

Probably hated him just as much the following decade while at Collingwood.

That being said, have a begrudging respect for his longevity and achievements as a coach.

If he can deliver wins, especially against the top sides and turn us into legitimate contenders, I’ll have no problem embracing him.

I don't care where they come from really.
I actually like malthouse, always have. He sticks up for his players, and takes no shit. I also like Nathan Buckley, but I've spent a little time with him and he's far from the figjam people think he is.
But before you think I'm some kind of freak, I've always had a powerful instinctive dislike for James Hird. Something very NQR with that guy I reckon.

I never really hated Malthouse, always thought at the very worst he could be a bit of a wanker at times & perhaps took himself too seriously. Absolutely nothing like my thoughts of Sheedy. Actually I can't recall a single time he's taken a jibe at Carlton.

Must admit I really enjoyed that first press conference he did for us where he bit a few heads off.

Having said that not a big fan of his appointment, can't understand why we're paying a coach what we are when nobody else wanted him, & we've still got a massive debt. But anyway, just bring on the season & hand us the cup & all that.

I hear what your saying and I understand, but when I heard him speaking on the radio today, I just didn't feel the love. When he used to speak about Collingwood I always used to feel like he loved that club. I don't hear love. Maybe it's just me

I can't say I hate him as such, but I feel conflicted about warming to a man who I took great pleasure in seeing heart broken at the end of the 2003 Grand Final shedding tears with Licuria.

But then again he did call Milne a rapist and looked like he wanted to kill him. So he can't be all bad...

Jeez, a bit hard to feel love for a club and a group of players he's coached for a sum total of ZERO games!

What you heard from him at collingwood was the feeling that comes from coaching a group of blokes for their career, and being part of a place for a decade, getting into grand finals, winning them, all the highs and lows. If he was professing love for carlton without ever coaching us in a single game, I'd think he's full of shit.

What John said.

A decade vs 5 minutes.
I started really liking him after he signed and informed me that he was a Carlton supporter as a kid.
Won me.

It doesn't matter who they represented...and lets face it Richmond and Collingwood isn't any Carlton man's cup of cocoa...he's now having a go with us as did Barrassi and Parko did in my time.

If he doesn't win us a flag, he'll be pigeon holed with Pagan and Hamill having never delivered a flag when we gave them the opportunity. Yeah yeah...a bit bias...don't worry about it.

We'll win our flag with MM. If we win 2-3 he's The Messiah along with Pratty and if Juddy is around whilst that all happens...another ring in who barracked for Demons, played with Eagles and saw the light at Carlton.

Come on MM there's 3 flags beckoning.

I thought Ratten was dealt with very harshly. Injuries killed us last year.
Although, as Gerard Whateley astutely observed last year on numerous occasions, we won on talent, and when we lost it was because our system broke down.

Mick is amongst the best few coaches in the league (I certainly prefer him to be coaching us than that flower Clarkson), and I think he will do wonders with our list, that he knows is quality.
In the interview he did with Ms Trewartha on Tuesday, he is jumping out of his skin. I'm excited.

And everyone looks better in Navy.

I agree with you on all 3. Always liked malty and Buckley. Don't like hird probably for the simple fact he is Essendon*

I can't argue with any of the facts about why he is good for Carlton. I think he'll be good for Carlton too... Still can't embrace him as a Carlton man just yet. I'm sure it will come soon enough. I love all you lot trying to tell everyone you never really hated him or always had a soft spot... Who are you trying to convince? I am under no illusions about how I felt about Mick. I've never liked him. Now I want to like him.

A few wins should do the trick

I've made it known I'm not a fan of the bloke but I'd love to see him have success at the Blues.
In saying that, I suspect he'll achieve similar to Ratten (maybe a finals win) but he doesnt have the ability to take us any further than Ratts did.
Too inflexible and fixed in his ways. Game plan is low risk but also low reward.

It will be interesting to see how the Pies go now as unfortunately I suspect they will flourish without the shackles and restrictions imposed on them by Mick. I hope I'm wrong.

Despite those thoughts, I'll be hoping like hell the Blues can win every game they contest and Mick becomes a premiership coach with us.
If he is, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

I love him.

I feel dirty and ashamed.

But I love the air of confidence he has given me, even though, of course, that counts for nothing.

Perhaps a better way to describe my current feelings are, I cannot bloody wait to see how we go this year. Haven't been so keen on a Carlton season since the 90s.

GO BLUES!!!

That's an interesting statement. I reckon early on last year they tried to play the way you are describing above and struggled it is only when they went back to the original way they played that they started to string wins together.

Agreed.

They seemed caught between styles at some points.

..not to mention that he in the ten years at the pies, he took a bottom team quickly to 2 GFs, dipped down expertly for a sneak-tank, and have been in finals and top 4 for years.. ..all up 4 GFs and a flag.. ..and you reckon they've been "held back" and should now "flourish" under bucks..??.. ..bloody hell you've got high expectations..!!..

edit - 4 gand final years, lost 3 but they were against the 2 most dominant teams we've seen in a long time..
