He certainly threw the stats around like Ratts did.
We'd disagree with you there. Ratts (and he's not alone) was using the wrong stats. Even Teddy Hopkins will tell you that. Coaches are coming around to analysing the game a little differently but the importance is to get the stats right - deliver them appropriately - but not to get away from the basics too much. If you get the basics right - you'll be a good footy side. Our boys have been a little confused over recent years as they played in strict accordance with the Ratten gameplan - but in doing so, lost the basics and in some instances the creativity that got them to be professional footballers to begin with.
With Malthouse and Wiley - we can be assured the players will be given a role within the gameplan. They won't shy away from the stats, but they're more than likely going to have a different set of parameters by which to measure performance.
Your post didn't disagree with me though.
Moving on. As far as the lack of long goals go i see that as something that evloved under Ratts. At one stage we were getting too many "long points" as Ratts described them. Where we would either strain too much and miss or have the ball land just short for the easy rush. Ratts pointed to it as a problem at a number of pressers and then changed to instead of taking long shots we would work it to a position that had a higher % of scoring. Which then evolved to the pocket entries and press that frustrated many but used effectively by a number of the top teams.
Hopefully we can get some players into the 22 that can score long goals. It is something that we have missed since Fev was dispatched to the Bears.
