I would be rapt for us to get another 1-2 picks before about 40. I personally think its the best way to go. But how do we do it? Need to be honest about a players value. Hampson, Kruezer, Warnock, Lucas, Garlett, Waite etc? Can't really see it happening.

Do you mean those players aren't worth a pick inside top 40 or we wouldn't trade them?

Hampson, Kruezer and Garlett would all easily be worth a pick inside the top 40. Probably warnock as well.

Who's going to pay it? Who wants them? We can claim a player is worth X all we want but if another team doesn't agree they're not.

You always assume the worst Psycho.
You dont think they're worth top 40 picks, I do.

Where did I say that?

A player is worth what someone will pay for them. Simple.

I actually don't think we need another forward-cum-second-ruck, we have 2 already, one just promoted to the senior list (Casboult), another 2 years to go on a 3 year deal (Hampson). There is a third, albeit more unproven option in Rowe. Why do we need another? Develop those 3 and let then fight it out.'

What we do need is a genuine key forward to play along side the resting ruck, and allowing Waite to play third tall. Cloke and Tippett are out, leaves Dawes, Gumbleton and not much else of established players. You would imagine that Mitchell probably needs another year in the twos, so it would be handy to get someone else in. But they don't need to be able to ruck.

..Cloke is a class above the others, i think Tippet is more a ruck/fwd vs true KPF.. ..Dawes, Gumby are KPF's, but Dawes has only had 1 good season and even that wasn't all that impressive coming from a full-time FF of a flag team.. ..Gumby has been injured non-stop and has half his spine fused.. ..neither him nor Dawes are any better for us than simply using Hendo up fwd..

..for me it's simple.. ..fast track Watto, Hendo had bugger all experience when he was forced to help down back.. ..Watto can hold down CHB, just put good structures and team defenders around him.. ..heaps of teams, better and worse than ours, have had good kid KPDs come on that were no better or more experienced than Watto.. ..this will release Hendo up fwd, a young quality CHF that we can build our fwd line around..

Doesnt sound so simple to me, he has a long way to go before he can be considered a first choice AFL level CHB, the thought of Watson playing on Buddy is enough to turn a coaches hair grey (although that is no longer a concern). Henderson has him covered everywhere at this stage.

why would you play watson on buddy?
name any defender that could shut down buddy????
if he could kick straight, he would have kick 10 against teddy.
watson is more suited to play on the bigger body blokes.
once watson learns more about body on body, he will turn out to be a very handy player for us.
how many games has he played, maybe 10???
tom hawkins has taken 5 years to come on.
likewise with mcInnes and mccarthy, give them time please.
hope lucas gets more opportunities under malthouse, not play 6 games and 4 as the sub, no chance of showing much with that.
pick 11, someone like jake stringer.
pick 33, someone like tom lee.
pick 52 or someone like ellard for gumby.
with these additions, i believe we start looking at becoming a top 4 team.
bring on trade week and the national draft.

We've elevated Casboult and Tuohy, possibly Curnow too.

3 more delistings need to occur. Bower, then who? Ellard to be traded I assume, then what? I'd prefer Davies or Collins ahead of Curnow to be honest. Can we keep Curnow on the rookie list if O'Keeffe is already our third year rookie?

Curnow is not required. McLean & Ellard are far better options and we could elevate Bell instead.
Outs: Kerr, bray, Lodge, Russell, Thornton, Bower, Curnow & Davies. Any more go with Joseph or even White.
Elevate Tuohy, casboult & Bell.

Cachia another near BOG performance in SANFL Grand Final. Had a blinder of a season. Alot of us thought he had potential. May be one that got away. Solid, tough mid.

Um, Joseph is contracted for next year and White just re-signed a couple of weeks ago, hardly going to be delisted.
Both would have to be traded.

Pretty sure we could get him back if we wanted.

Should of specified yes the players listed are players I think should leave club whether it be delisting or trading.

How many players across the AFL that have been contracted and been paid out?

Which means the Pick 4 from Melbourne to Collingwood for Dawes and Wellingham is going to get a run.

Pick 3 for Melbourne for Oliver Wines?

Wines, Dawes, Wellingham and Viney. Not a bad summer for the Dees.

Rumoured that Gold Coast not bidding on Viney is part of a package deal that sees Melbourne cough up overs for Caddy.

Don't think Wellingham will go to Melbourne.

Maybe, but they did give pick 2 to GWS for pick 1 of the mini draft, so they couldn't bid with it.

That makes sense. One extra year to assess a young player on their list, and not adding an extra one too soon.

Me either. Highly unlikely.

So assuming that we are able to keep Curnow / O'Keeffe / Bell all on the rookie list (or delist Curnow), and Bower goes. Where is the last spot on the list coming from?

Either Rowe is put on the rookie list, Ellard is traded or cut, or Collins/Davies get delisted. Can't see us being able to pay out Joseph. If we end up getting that Bower for Roberton with picks deal through it complicates things even further....
