I actually don't think we need another forward-cum-second-ruck, we have 2 already, one just promoted to the senior list (Casboult), another 2 years to go on a 3 year deal (Hampson). There is a third, albeit more unproven option in Rowe. Why do we need another? Develop those 3 and let then fight it out.'
What we do need is a genuine key forward to play along side the resting ruck, and allowing Waite to play third tall. Cloke and Tippett are out, leaves Dawes, Gumbleton and not much else of established players. You would imagine that Mitchell probably needs another year in the twos, so it would be handy to get someone else in. But they don't need to be able to ruck.
..Cloke is a class above the others, i think Tippet is more a ruck/fwd vs true KPF.. ..Dawes, Gumby are KPF's, but Dawes has only had 1 good season and even that wasn't all that impressive coming from a full-time FF of a flag team.. ..Gumby has been injured non-stop and has half his spine fused.. ..neither him nor Dawes are any better for us than simply using Hendo up fwd..
..
for me it's simple.. ..fast track Watto, Hendo had bugger all experience when he was forced to help down back.. ..Watto can hold down CHB, just put good structures and team defenders around him.. ..heaps of teams, better and worse than ours, have had good kid KPDs come on that were no better or more experienced than Watto.. ..this will release Hendo up fwd, a young quality CHF that we can build our fwd line around..
Doesnt sound so simple to me, he has a long way to go before he can be considered a first choice AFL level CHB, the thought of Watson playing on Buddy is enough to turn a coaches hair grey (although that is no longer a concern). Henderson has him covered everywhere at this stage.
