Some of these barriers may have been broken down over the years... but they can also exist cos its human nature to be !@#$%&!!!..
At this risk of boring you, what Synbad is saying is correct its normal human behavior..
For those that think that this argument is over simplified consider the following.
The most fundamental of human needs outside of the physical needs that sustain physical life is the need to belong followed by the need to differentiate within a group. Human beings are socially dependent creatures and a social Groups (including the CFC board of directors) drive the behavior its members (a right of passage so to speak that reaffirms the individuals place within the team). All groups (even this forum) are made up of 1)super-typical s, 2) typical s and 3)sub-typical s. The characteristics of the super-typical are emulated by the typical's who in turn are themselves emulated by the sub-typical s.
Its a case of consciously following the leader in order to ensure survival.
The group cloisters (shuts down open access) in order to preserve its power-- Its a little like the moderators in here.
As much as human beings profess and strive for non discriminatory behavior, its an innate survival mechanism. So yeah its totally possible that a football board made up predominately of Catholics or Jewish member's may for innate social reasons block the introduction of a new leader (say of different belief) if that prospective is different in someway that is a major factor in binding the current organisation. The solution is to prevent cloistering and ensure objective based external transparency.
