How can you be stale when you haven't been there that long - People sit here and put Costa and Cook on a pedastal and yet they have had years to get it right
This club needs a long and sustained stabilisation period this chopping and changing for changes sake is not going to achieve anything . Its a bit like an opposition party that keeps changes it's leader every 5 minutes until it finds someone who they think will get it over the line
You cannot develop a plan for the future if your future is uncertain and have this threat of being chucked out every couple of years is only going to ensure more quick fixes and more failed plans . People need to be put in place and backed to the hilt . and there is no saying that whoever was to replace Sticks would be doing any better job.
To say you want the board replaced means you no longer want the influence of the Visy connections , If the club were to cut ties with Visy they would financially fall in a hole . Presidents and Boards bring the dollars in and until someone fronts up with a shit load of cash there is no sense in changing the incumbents .
6 presidents in 11 years does not send a good signal to sponsors
Not entirely true, but that's exactly why the current board is stinking the joint up. If we're reliant on Mathieson and Pratt gifts, then you really have to ask yourself what the hell the board (in its current state) is doing.
Is it a properly functioning board of directors with strong and focussed leadership, or is it a bunch of comparative lightweights surrounded by two very wealthy families?
I'm all for continuity and stability. But only if we're continuing on a path that's demonstrably a good one to be on. 3 more years of Kernahan presidency?? Even one of our two 'families' - the Mathiesons, sees the folly in that. You really want to keep going with Sticks as Prez, because you've got change fatigue?
We probably don't need huge, sweeping 'get rid of the lot' changes... we just need leadership. We don't have that at the the club. Sticks isn't an effective leader as a chairman. Swann isn't a leader. Jeannie Pratt isn't a leader. We have no leadership. We have no Cook, no Costa, no Kennett, no McGuire...
It's vital we get this right. Kernahan isn't cut out to chair the board. Our VP isn't either. Swann is merely a functionary, best suited to do as he's told and implement the grand plan. Like it or not, we are rudderless right now, and the whole football world knows it. Bruce Mathieson has openly stated it. The way we conduct ourselves proves it.
