Jeff and Eddie, thank you for costing us the game.
It isn't up to Jeff and Eddie to win crunch games for us. OK, they missed goals. They are also our top two goalkickers for the year so they have done their share of winning games for us anyway.
How about Murphy's game? Not up to his usual standard. Barely got a touch all day and when he did? No penetration.
How about Gibbs's game. His usual standard vanilla game with one good tackle added for good measure. When Judd went off who stepped up out of our #1 pick mids? Neither of them McLean went at it from the first bounce. Why? because he is playing for his life every week and the others aren't.
How about Kreuzer's game. Won a few hitouts including one pearler to McLean running through the pack. Not one contested mark. Not one goal. Lots of bullocking but he is NOT a tap ruckman and IMO is a wasted #1 pick. Got towelled up again by someone in the same draft would you believe?
How about Simmo's game? Held most of the day, turned it over several times and even ran the wrong side of the ball carrier to sell himself into a position where he had to turn it over for a goal late in the game. I love Simmo but he had a poor game tonight by his standards.
Have I covered all the 'leaders' yet? There are 8.
Waite played well for 5.
Judd injured
Jamo out
Judd said it last week. The leaders have to take responsibility and they don't/can't/won't. Wallsy is right. Probably top blokes all of them but leaders? Sorry.
Garlett and Eddie may well kick ten between them in Rd 1 but the deeper problem of lack of leadership will take more than a new coach and six months to resolve.
Whoever we get has to teach everybody to kick straight. Priority one. Nobody wants to shoot for goal. They mark and desperately try to find someone to pass to. It's a confidence thing. Look at the Essendon* game. Kicked everything. PRESSURE!
2013 starts now.
