This is not going to end well.

I hope the club come to their senses and don't hire Malthouse. We wont win anything with him in charge. Overlook him please.

Have a look at some young untried coaches and even Eade and Chocko.

Malthouse will take us for a ride and it will be the end of us.

Club I am keen to hear your reasoning for not wanting Malthouse because 'we won't win anything', then in the next sentence you say you want Eade?

I think getting rid of Ratten is the right thing. I think we need a hard-nosed, experienced Premiership coach and who can demand instantly that the Club does things his way. Malthouse fits that bill. So does Roos. Roos is unavailable.

However, I also believe strongly that Kernahan needs to step down. IF this is in any way a ploy to buy Kernahan more time, in the same way that Elliott got Pagan as coach to try and save his ass (and Kernahan was part of that), then it's another example of Kernahan's ineptitude. I have no idea if this is the case. I would be delighted if Kernahan announces in the next few weeks he is stepping down.

One thing we can all agree on is that the way this has been handled has been very poor, and highlights just how amateurish the club is on many levels, particularly in how we deal with rough times.

My only hope is that Ratts isn't the only one who's hung out there. There are others more worthy of this shite than he is.

We lost to Port by 54 points (Bombers beat them @ AAMI by 8 goals in the middle of their form slump, FFS) and the GCS with a pretty decent side and coming off a 16 goal win. Making top 4 would have been a long shot, BS.

Until this club can do away with appalling lapses like this, we'll never be a top 4 team. Never. Think Doggies last year, too.

How so Don? The club must firstly deal with their coaching staff and players followed by the members/supporters and media a distant last. Whilst I agree that Ratten shouldn't be the only one to go, I disagree that we have handled this as badly as the hate (Carlton) media have made out. Stuff 'em.

So a report in the AGE suggests that we are going to Pay out Ratt's $650K PLUS help him get the job at Port Adeliade and then pay Malthouse $1.25 million a year.

Are we flower mad?

Malthouse is a 60 year old codger who has lost 3 of his last 4 Grand Finals who ONLY HAS US as an option yet he's asking for $1.25million?????

Hey Malthouse - GET STUFFED!

Thank you Brian Blessed.

I agree, amateurish. We made big statements about running with our own agenda(not the medias) and making a decision post this week, only to fold like a deck of cards to media speculation later in the same week and follow the media's agenda to the letter. Would have been happy if we came out this morning and said nothing has changed, decisions will be made and announced next week and maintained a consistent line, instead of feeding the media trolls.

I for one wiould like to go on record as thinking this is a huge mistake. I am firmly in the camp that says we would have made the top 4 apart from injuries this year.

Respectfully, I disagree with you.

I'll point to some games I was at, that refute your argument and show that something was VERY wrong.

Adelaide, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Sydney games. Even with personnel out, the way either the players or the gameplan occurred were disasters.

When we took possession in D50, we had nobody making space to kick it to, so it would always turn over to the other team.

We had nobody making space, because when we got possession, there appeared to be no set gameplan/structure for players to go from X to Y. When we switched in the backline to the open side of the ground, NOBODY ran to that side until the defender was in possession and had been waiting for someone to do something.

There were players who were more happy to sit outside packs and let others do the work. Bryce Gibbs was the chief offender.

When a player was under pressure as the ball tried to carry and handball the football along the D50 flanks, there was nobody or a 2/3 on 1 contest up the field. A blind hospital ball (or worse, OOF) would occur and result in a turnover.

Whenever the opposition caused a turnover, their players understood what they had to do, and committed themselves to their instructions.

The modus operandi was clear:

- Opposition teams played to a set, flexible structure, and ALL of their players regardless of the pecking order committed to it - NO LAZY footballers
- Carlton played to a strength system. Get the ball to the more talented players where you can, and let them "do their thing". That means Yarran get the ball and run and dodge 3 guys. Scotland kick it 50 metres even if its to no Carlton player. Tuohy if you get the ball, just try to do something. Hope like hell it gets into the hands of Murphy, Judd or Carrazzo.

Carlton played more often as individuals and got smashed by teams that were talented to stick to their gameplan and harass Carlton out of their talent. When the ball turned over and we were caught "out of position" (which often was no position at all), there was not enough players willing to commit the other way - LAZY footballers.

This was evident in each of those victories, and by 1/4 you knew how cooked the team was that day.

The team didn't commit as a team. The instructions appeared to be based on individualism. Why? Because the same thing occurred for an entire game.

The times Carlton did win is where the individual brilliance combined with open space, and a higher intensity to not be lazy, allowed the individuals to win the day.

This is in stark contrast to last year where there was more determination.

That says that something is broken between players and coach/committee.

And that's why it can't continue.

Have to agree.

The fact is that we have a group of lazy, arrogant, occasionally pea-hearted players who unfortunately need someone to constantly put a cattle-prod up their arse. They should be able to do this themselves, like the top teams do, but they don't. Sadly, Ratts isn't the babysitter the club needs, as evidenced by the slow moves that are made when things aren't going right, the constant lapses in concentration and workrate, and the stubborn reluctance to drop 'favourites' who aren't performing. Ratts isn't the guy to take this mob forward, and the fault lies on both ends. This mob needs someone more decisive, tough, and if that means an old-school Barassi-type so be it.

This is the best i have seen Ratts in a press conference. Well done to him, handled himself wonderfully well.
He is determined to coach this week, i think another club will snap him up as an assisstant.
