We (CFC) hang our hat on the fact we're the most successful premiership winning team. Most of which we bought.
Maybe instead of heading over to Real Madrid, a club where we probably already could already identify ourselves with. A club that perhaps couldn't teach us what we needed to know?
Instead, they could have looked at a club like Southampton and what they're doing to develop their own talent? Or look at a competitive club like Everton who manage success for years on end despite having a big payroll?
Or if they really wanted to make sense and learn something, head over to the NFL and have a good look at the ground up at drafting, salary cap management and success.
Pittsburgh, New England, Green Bay and NYG etc are perennially successful on and off the field.
It's like every thing CFC does is not overly thought out. Or would you disagree with that assessment?
Real is one of the biggest sporting organisations in the world, if we looked at it for training facilities that would make sense to me. If we looked to them for recruiting tips, that might be a concern.
Similarly, why would we look to Soton for developing talent? I dunno, do they have a youth academy that's acknowledged as world's best practice? They might do, I'm not sure. I'm not saying there's nothing we could take from some of the smaller clubs in Europe, but if you're going on a junket to learn things from other codes it's probably best to identify winning organisations (without meaning to be harsh to Soton).
I would agree with your armchair assessment that many things our club does are not well thought out. The view from my armchair is the same there.
