Been listening to KB this morning and he has been talking about Ratten. He brings up a good point. If MM is serious about not making a decision until October then what happens to Ratten until then? Either he is sacked now or strung along for a month which wouldnt be fair on him. If MM wants to coach then surely he has to make a decision straight away.
What a mess.
My take was that Ratten would be stood down straight away with MM then not officially appointed until after season end.
This would give the impression of some sort of 'process' as well as avoiding what was deemed as the disrespectful prospect of a Fremantle situation where they seemingly sacked a bloke, and then hired his replacement within 45 minutes even if it turns out that our situation has in fact been a fait accomli since June.
We all know that the way these things are played out in the media is nowhere near close to what actually happens, but to a lot of people perception is reality.
In fairness I think since the Sticks' 3AW 'I cant guarantee anything" interview as well as Swann's "circumstances might change" MMM disaster the club has handled what is never an easy situation as well as they can.
Many have criticised them for saying nothing, but why bother coming out and making statements that you know are just going to be used against you later on down the track. "Full backing of the board, guaranteed to be coach in 2013 etc etc". ala the Essendon* Knight/Thompson/Hird fiasco.
When asked for comment "the full review at the end of the year" line has been the common theme and should have been from June when this whole mess started.
Just my 3c
