Yep. Always best to let others do your critical thinking for you, isn't it. Life's easier and less complicated that way.
I dunno John. Letting others -- from a stronger position of experience and knowledge -- influence you?
Or
Get stuck in an archaic way of thinking, and demanding after 5 years of steady improvement that we replace our coach, because you think you're entitled to a flag sooner based on we just bought our titles in the 80's.
Hmmm. You're not giving me much of an option here.
Lots of people influence me. The trick is to apply your own filter to it all, and think for yourself.
Robert Walls says the club should keep Ratts. Robert Walls has been out of the game for 15 years, and has made countless pronouncements in the media over the years, only to contradict them a month later. So I don't really take a lot of notice of Wallsy myself. Others may.
Parko has been out of the game for 12 years, but is still around the fringes. By his own admission, he lost touch in his latter years. He's a brilliant bloke though, and well worth listening to. But he's also a mentor of Ratten, and they're very close, and so I don't trust his endorsement of Ratts as much as a couple of people on here seem to. Maybe it's because I've seen first-hand how this kind of attachment clouds judgement... dozens of times.
Look, you can feel warm and fuzzy because Parko said Ratts is great. Parko also implored the club to appoint Britts. You can feel warm and fuzzy because Wallsy said Ratts is improving, if you like.
I don't hear too many more ex-coaches endorsing Ratten though. I don't hear Roos or Matthews. Maybe they think he's shit. They certainly would never say that out loud, because coaches never openly criticise coaches.
Dunno.
Ratten inherited a list that was ready to improve pretty much on its own (3 years of top draft picks plus the best mid in the game will do that) and in more than 5 years we have one elimination finals win; a team structure that falls completely apart when Andy Carrazzo gets injured; a coach who thinks that barracking from the boundary-line is the go... then no, it's back up in the box; a coach who is incapable of inspiring confidence; a coach who even his own mate and President was ummming and ahhhhing about sacking 8 weeks ago.
But Parko says he's great, so yeah. I guess he's great.
