Stanton was invisible and never got his hands on it. Jobe wasnt much better, especially in the 2nd.

... from where I was, it looked more like run-with roles, but get your own ball, then it was outright tagging and taking them out of the game at the expense of winning your own ball. It looked like a team performance to keep them quiet, than any one individual. At stoppages Carrots would take Jobe, other times go to stanton. Go look at the tape.

Gibbs thrown into the middle and told to win his own ball, isn't a big positive step in the right direction?

Gibbs was moved around all day. Not much different to the last month. He was frequently playing deep in defence, sometimes as a wingback and other times on the ball. He was effective in all roles. Looks fitter than he was a 6 weeks ago and even a little bigger across the shoulders.
Liking his game at the moment. Giving us great flexibility.

Oh and well done to Ratts. No matter what happens in the next month he will be able to hold his head up. If he gets shifted out he will even have claims to being hard done by.

Its no different to the other games. Carrazzo and Curnow have still been winning their own ball, even though they've been accountable for an opponent.
As for who takes who at the stoppages, its no different to any other games. The players mix and match, depending on where the opposition player starts. As long as the targettted player is being bodied up, its irrelevant who does it.

As for Gibbs, he's had plenty of opportunities to win his own ball. Its only yesterday that he started to do it. Unfortunately I suspect he's similar to Goddard. They've become so familiar with playing behind the ball, they have to learn how to become a contested ball winner again.

But to suggest Ratten suddenly changed his philosophy and let the players free wheel is incorrect. Our structures and methodology were very similar to past weeks. Its just that the players are playing better footy due to numerous reasons. Not the least, several are gaining some form from getting continuity in their footy.

+1.

Mixture of fit A grade talent back on the park, mental application and 4 quarters of hard work got the amazing result we saw.

It is all about desire and confidence plus having the skills and talent to execute well under pressure.

The gut running was evident today. Brock, Simmo, Murph and Curnow prime examples. The commitment to get 2 to every contest created pressure and turnovers. The 110% commitment to work hard as a team to the very last siren was terrific

It was simply a joy to watch them go about their business. It is easy to smile when you are 8 gls up but as a group they honestly looked to be enjoying their work and the results they were getting together.

Regards Cazzesman

Fantastic result for the boys the club and particularly Brett Ratten. His tactics for exposing Essendons weaknesses were strategic and carried out by a committed group playing for everybody including the coach.

Puts a lot into perspective. Shows the damage done with injuries to key personell has cruelled the season. Not cruelled by the coach, the board, list management or anything else. Carlton's best is good enough to beat anybody.

Great work by the whole club

The players are clearly playing for Ratts. Can you see the players with as much passion if Malthouse, Roos or Bomber were at the helm? I think not.

My understanding is that the board is split on whether to keep Ratten on for 2013. A big decision looms for the club in coming weeks.

There's plenty of threads for people to share their negative opinions on Ratten, let's keep this one up beat, okay.

:thanks:

Oh well it was a nice thought.

Parkin today put his strong stamp of approval on Ratten as coach.

For all the posters out there who think they know coaching better than Parkin...lets see your CV

Not in this thread of course :donk:

Perhaps we should consider giving Ratts an extension after the season finishes?

Perhaps make it conditional on performance next year or have it like an option. If we don't exercise the option Ratts gets a percentage of the contract. Gives the coach and players some certainty and also give the club flexibility based on results.

But heck we haven't even finished this year yet!

Glad we are doing the professional thing and waiting until the end of the year. People by their nature are far too emotional to make such decisions in the middle of the season.

Bill Shorten said recently that Julia Gillard was a fantastic Prime Minister. So by your logic, unless someone here knows politics better than Bill Shorten, it must be true.

A serious question Baz-Baz. Parkin is an ambassador for AFCA. (The coaches association)
Even if he thought Ratts was the worst coach in the history of the AFL, would you seriously expect him to speak out against him?

I would expect if Parkin thought he was shit, he'd not say anything at all or be vague and open-ended in his response.

Not give a glittering endorsement when he knows he'll look like an idiot?!

I read where Parkin stated Ratten could not have done much better under the circumstances and he doubted anyone else could have done better.
He also admitted he was very close to Ratts and admitted a perception of bias.

Obviously thats not the comments you're talking about. Where are these "glittering endorsements"?
Do you have a link?

No. It was just my interpretation of the blue print & google + hangout that I watched, mate. Parkin talked about the players playing for him, and how that is the hardest thing in coaching, no matter what era ... How he thinks Ratten should finish his contract. He may have alluded to Ratten will be successful if he is allowed to coach on. Again, that mighta been the way I interpreted what he actually said?

There's links to it all on the CFC twitter feed.

Actually he said that in his entire time as a coach he has never coached anyone who thinks as deeply about the game that Ratts does.

Can anyone else see that Ratt's fotunes as a coach co insided with our injury list.

I think there is far to much talk about the coach (From any club). If you don't have the cattle you don't get the points.....

All of a sudden we are looking sharp again, well flower me, Murphy, Waite, Carrots, Walker all back in the same team. I'm not sure it's a sharp improvement in Ratt's coaching. And I am a Ratt's fan.

You watch next year when we finally put our best line up out there for an extended period. We'll be as good as anyone. Remember we are still playing without our three best backmen.

Who ever is coaching us when that happens will be seen as a super coach, but in reality we'll just have all our talent on the park.
