I definitely don't think Gibbs was running especially hard tonight or that he ran himself into the ground. I was at the game and paid particular attention to him. Still cruises around and and plays with a lack of intensity/conviction. Sure he got plenty of it, but still needs to show more intensity in my opinion. I find him incredibly frustrating to watch.....maybe it's just me and I'm a harsh judge, but I want to see more from him.
Interesting comment. Hard to tell with Bryce. I remember earlier in the year I got good odds on Scott Pendlebury to get at least 30 possies against Geelong, so I whacked some cash on and happened to go along to the game. As a neutral with money riding on it, I decided to follow Pendlebury extremely closely. I would have said word for word about him, what you just said about Gibbs. Cruised around, seemed like he had very little intensity and incredibly laconic. Seemed like he was covering no ground at all. Yet he got his 30 possies (kerching!), 4 goals and best on ground. Players who seem so natural and effortless can be deceiving. I would say Gibbs falls into this basket.
I like the analogy and I agree.
Gibbs is bloody good, but we're expecting more maybe coz we're losing, I guess.
I bet there's more to come, and he's going to be big.
