As I’ve posted before, the club has to fully understand why we have failed this year and then act accordingly to rectify our issues and weaknesses.

I just want the club to do whatever it takes to ensure that we become a true power club once again, on and off field. The reality is we are not at present.

While we have come from a long way back and have made significant progress in recent years, I can’t help but feel that this progress has stagnated somewhat. On and off field.

My position is not necessarily anti Ratts or anti Sticks. However if it is determined that they need to move on for the betterment of the club then so be it.

As a member, all I can do is trust that the decision makers and powerbrokers will make the right calls to take the club towards the promised land.

All things taken in to account, it would be hard to argue against the thought that significant changes will be made in the coming weeks and months.

I will be watching with absolute interest what happens to our club.

So Ratts said they need to be realistic in their review of our year. Wow. They are already making excuses for the year and a reason for him to stay on next year.

We all know the injuries hurt us this year, but what we cant cop is some players still dont know what their roles are, some players have gone backwards and our structures are still crap.

If Ratten stays next year, we are stuffed.

The thing is though Dg, injuries force players to change roles. You often hear talk about the top teams have very settled back lines ... how each player instinctively gets to know what's the guys around him a likely to do. Well we're at about the opposite end of that. Our back line has been about as unstable as any I can remember. Even when we had guys like Henderson fit we'd have to pinch him from the backline to cover up front.

Reliable poster on Big Footy says almost certain Malthouse will coach next 3 years. I assume he means us.

The question I find most intriguing now is which Assistants will Mick bring with him, and which of our current Assistants will stay?

I very much doubt that Alan Richardson will work with MM.

I couldnt see any of the assistants staying on to be honest.

If you're sacking the coach his assistants have to go as well.

When Malthouse comes in he will want to pick his own staff and so he should.

I'm tipping we'd look at one of Brisbane's assistants

Our backline has been unsettled for years now. The closest thing to a regular presence back their over Ratts tenure is Jamison which, considering his injuries, says a lot about how much work we still have to do back there. It's one of our problems that is often overlooked. Hopefully next year Laidler gets back at 100%, Watson makes CHB his own, Jamo stays injury free and Touhy and Yarran keep improving. For once it would be nice to not have to rotate multiple players through the back half to cover form and/or injury.

So how are we going to do this.

Fremantle Harvey/Lyon style. Sack Ratts, and then magically appoint MM 30 minutes later, or have Ratten stand down and go through a mock process before appointing MM just to make it look like this wasn't something that has been in the wings since June?

What difference does it make?....

To Ratten - none. To the club in a PR sense - something.

Just curious as obviously this is playing out behind the scenes different to how it is in public. Whilst this is nothing new in football, I was just interested as to how the club plans to handle what should be a delicate situation, and what will be the inevitable media frenzy.

We all might have the luxury of TC, + other forums to get a blow by blow account of the last 2 months, but the majority of supporters would be clueless and are more than likely still under the impression that Ratts is coaching for his career in the next 4 weeks. Dayne Zorko said so, Robbo think's it, Barrett thinks he should stay, so therefore it is all true.....

I mentioned to my old man that it seems that Malthouse had agreed to a 3 year contract, so his first response was "I'll have to watch 360 tonight and see what they have to say" as if this was something that all took place over 1 phone call this afternoon and is now common knowlege!

Fremantle had to deal with the whole "did Lyon stab Harvey in the back", "was he deep in talks whilst still a St Kilda coach?" and Essendon* with the conflicting stories of when Thompson began talks about joining the Hird regime etc.

Considering that Ratten is still under contract, MM's constant denial and refusal to discuss coaching jobs as respect to the person contracted to the position, and Sticks' hardly stellar performances in the past when under media fire, they'd all better be ready.

That's all.

As we all know we've sacked a few of our own over the years and I wouldn't say we did all that delicately.

With Cloke a done deal by all accounts, and Roos unavailable, I would be guessing that someone is putting the funds up to pay out Rattens contract in order to get Malthouse....

Cloke and Malthouse package deal makes perfect sense as Cloke played his best football under MM.

The bottom line is success overrides everything. I'm sure the Freo supporters will be saying Mark who? If they make the finals, if they are not already saying that now.

A few Carlton supporters and journos will be saying Ratts has been hard done by if he is replaced. However, if success comes as a result that will quickly change.
