I wouldn't be surprised if Thornton was dropped, though I wouldn't be happy with it.
He did some really good things last week and simply doesn't deserve to be dropped. He offers us more than White in terms of versatility and is more likely to perform than Waite who despite playing a ripper VFL game last week, hasn't played an AFL game since round 7.
Got to pull you up on a couple of things.
Waite is very consistent when he is on the park, and his best is a lot better than T-bird's.
Also, regardless of who is better, White is the more versatile player. He can legitimately play in defense.
Thornton did some really good things against the Tigs, but he only got 7 touches (and that wonderful tap) against a pretty average defense. I don't think his work rate is good enough.
I agree that Waite is the better and more consistent player when fit, but I don't think he'd offer a whole lot more than TBird coming off a 12 week lay off with a pretty severe back injury. Time will tell, when and if he's selected over Thornton.
Thornton may have only had the 7 disposals but as BKB pointed out, he certainly wasn't poor. He played a vital role in getting us over the line last week, Definitely not poor enough to deserve being dropped regardless of who is fit and ready to come in. It's basically 'play a good game and you'll probably still get dropped for a bigger name' is the message you send to the younger ones.
Disagree on White. Again as BKB pointed out, Thornton is quite good in defense, certainly at the very least on par with White. It's up forward where I believe TBird offers us a bit more with his contested marking and reliable kick for goal. I have no problem with White coming in, so long as it's not TBird making way for him.
