If we keep blaming injuries or this is used as an excuse - the proper forensic analysis wont be done and those systemic issues you identified and others both in terms of game pan and personnel wont be rectified

So how about you make an effort to do a proper forensic analysis?

As of the 16/7/12 (approx rd 15) - injuries to depth players

carlton
- rowe - unavailable ALL year
- mitchell - has only been back in the ants for about a month or so
- casboult, davies, white - unavailable for most of the year with injuries
- bell and ROK didnt play in ants until mid may due to injures
- buckley missed about 2 mths of the season with a finger injury
- bray missed 2+ mths due to a shoulder injury

Thats 9 non-first 22 players that had missed 50+% of the season to long term injuries - 7 of which might have made reasonable contributions to the team this year (exceptions being buckley & bray). Depending on who you have as in your best 22, you could potentially add warnock (50+% season injured) & thornton (approx 25%) depending on whether the article considered them best 22 or not (clearly thornton not)

Comparison teams that are often quoted

Pies depth injuries (16/7/12)
Josh Thomas, mcaffer, farmer, Cribbin & O'keefe as having missed significant time (> 1/4 season). The article you reference to actually considers mcaffer and okeefe as first 22 players - in which case, the pies have only had 3 depth players with longer term injuries

WC 'depth' injuries (16/7/12)
Dalziell (50%+), ash smith (approx 50%) - so 2 depth players with long term injuries

So Frank, are you still prepared to sit there with a straight face and claim that WC and collingwood have had similar injuries to carlton this year?

Review that comment at the end of the season.... West Coast are only 3 games in front of us at the moment and have a tougher run home than us. It is likely that we will finish the season within 1 win of them or on the same number of wins.

 I admire your confidence, but not the disappointment which will follow.

I only have them winning 1 more game (Brisbane). Us 3 or 4 (Tigers, Suns, Bombers and Saints).

Do a ladder predictor and tell me what you end up with.

1. setanta had injury issues (calves) and older - he has had further injuries this year, initially to his calf (again) and then subsequently his knee. There is nothing to indicate that ohailpin might have made a difference this year. He body didnt last 1 AFL game so to suggest that retaining him from a list management perspective would have made a difference is pure fantasy/trolling
2. Rowe is a forward option - he was a mature age recruit that we'd had our eyes on for a couple of seasons and with no major injury issues. He wasnt expected to dominate but to provide a tall forward option on the list that could come in to contribute as needed. That is not a speculative pick - that is drafting for need

You are a troll because you deliberately sidetrack discussion for your own agenda and add nothing to the discussion.

But setanta still did the job when we called upon him.

and as for injuries... i doubt he would have done his knee against us playing for us... unless we got another cloke...

seriously....

Setantas record in the AFL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rowes

What we did was stupidity... i called it then... and ill always call it.

He covered a few different spots on our list... we cant cover atm.

Deisting him and picking up Rowe with a second rounder???? pftttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Second rounder for a 25 year old SANFL tall... who was delisted from the Swans rookie list...oh yeah some other team was about to swoop...... :screwy:

Youre a troll.. because youre agenda is unrealistic....and u make accusations that others are trolls... cos your stuff is fanciful

so because a 23 yo KPP mature aged draftee that we'd been interested in for a couple of seasons, happened to get testicular cancer and consequently play 0 games this season, he is shit and wont ever amount to ohaiplins backside?

Great logic there troll.

As for covering certain positions - you conveniently ignore the fact that we havent been able to cover for KPP/ruck positions because virtually every single player capable of playing in those positions, bar mccarthy and watson have been injured this season - and most for extended periods

As per the thread title, the discussion in this thread has been about the extent that injuries have impacted carltons season - feel free to stick top topic.

You again????

Look... dream injuries as much as u want for an answer...and guys who have never played a single game of AFL footy are the answer

Who gives a stuff!!!???.....

You theory doesnt take away that the guys who arent injured... are playing without confidence and not fighting it out...

so its just dreamland stuff.....

if we had players fighting it out.. and we falling short cos of injuries... id believe u.......

but we arent... so i cant believe u.....

Hans Christian Anderson tarred up and feathers....

:screwy:

I am often interested in Synbads perspective and am often critical of some of it, but he is spot on regarding the decision to delist Setanta. In Setantas last few games he was our best big man and leading goalkicker. He could play key forward or back and pinch hit in the ruck. His crime was that he did not get on with Brett Ratten. Maybe we delisted the wrong person.

Move on please guys. Agree to disagree.

Little point in calling each other trolls.

Not trolling, it was a light hearted suggestion.

The definition of trolling is pretty wide and open to interpretation to be honest, but yes...branding someone as a troll can be trolling in itself.

Have to wonder why a full and comprehensive medical wasn't done on Jarrad Waite before signing him to a presumably lucrative 3 year deal.

Are injuries the reason why I went to the Adelaide game way back when and sat in Section 9 of Etihad stadium and watched a bunch of Carlton players run around and make very little attempt at the footy? Only Murphy did and we know how that ended.

Injuries can only partially explain it my opinion. There are enough examples to suggest that there may have been a slight IDGAF at play in some games.
