does anyone know if McKay could challenge and/or overthrow sticks, and also can swan make changes to the coaching &dev&med staff without putting it to a board vote?
McKay is happy with the role he has. That's his forte. He has no intention to overthrow Sticks...he wants a paid position within the football club and Operations Manager is it.

is the only possible way the pres can be 'replaced' is by way of the boards & members vote?
You require 100 votes from voting members to challenge a Board. The challenge can also come from within, but won't. In all likelihood, Sticks will only stand down if everyone around him says it's a good idea and someone appropriate is standing in the wings.

or can swan overrule protocol in certain circumstances?
The board appoints the CEO. Greg Swann can't fart without first getting approval from the board or executive.

how can we reduce the board number back down to a sensible number? does it have to come via members vote? or again, can the chairman make a decision to reduce the board numbers? or even retire them without needing it to go to a members vote?
The reduction in board members is happening. It reduces by one at the end of this year and another two should go the following year. It will happen, just not overnight.

is there a way we can make Jeanne the official club Matriarch, as opposed to vice pres? its old school but I like the sound of it, so her position isnt determined under the same guidelines of being voted in or niominated as it is with the other board members? she basucally remains matriarch till she or the bloke with the beard and the stick decides eoughs enough?
It's extremely unlikely that members will get a board vote in the next two/three years. It's been a couple of years already since a members vote took place. The board is no longer answerable to the membership. Technically - the way Carlton operate, you are a season ticket holder, not a member. I view the ongoing Visy sponsorship as Richard Pratt's bequest to the club. However it comes with strings attached. One of these strings attached is obviously two family members on the board. I would prefer Anthony Pratt to Jeanne Pratt, but again - members won't get a say. She's there until she decides it's time to move on or the board gets overthrown. Can't see the latter happening anytime soon.
