It's staggering that you still haven't realised that you're the only poster who isn't really pissed with Wellingham's deliberate and gutless attack on Simmo; and keep bringing up (in your opinion) old examples of vaguely similar or worse infractions to try to prove your point.....and to what end?
Warby, why do you continually trot out these invalid isolationist arguments? Every time it's "Well, everyone else can see my point" or "You're the only one who thinks this", when neither are really true? A quick look through the thread will reveal at least a few others who have said that it wasn't as malicious as it is made out to be (Heavs for example).
I'm pissed that Simmo is injured. Wellingham's attack was deliberate, but hardly the thuggery it's made out to be on here... between this and the Lonergan tackle, we're quickly developing a reputation as a supporter base for over-exaggerating these sorts of events.

To promote an argument?.....why?.....it doesn't matter who wears what color guernsey who was involved in whatever past example you trot out.....we are talking about the sniping attack on Friday night on an unaware ball player; that's put a stop to his consecutive run of 158 games; and thereby leaving a gaping hole in our midfield for 4-6 weeks.
You're right, it is shithouse. And I hope he does get weeks on the basis that we lost a player out of it also, but only through the ramifications of the incident, rather than the incident itself. If Simmo only had a concussion, and played the next week, I wouldn't have batted an eyelid had the result been a 50m penalty. Would you have?

To say the attack was mindless and completely unnecessary is a gross understatement; and I hope he does get a minimum of 4 weeks; and I reckon he would've got 8 weeks in the old VFL days.
Of course it's mindless - along with the thousands of other one percenters that will happen during the course of any game. We're hardly talking pre-meditated Underbelly hits here.
Are you suggesting that the VFL tribunal were far more harsh in handing down sentences than the current one? I'll defer to your seniority here, irrespective, I'd be surprised that such an incident didn't happen on a weekly basis.
I think Wellingham is primarily a ball player - his clean tribunal record over the space of 5 years reflects this. Barring a direct trip to the tribunal, it will also be reflected in the sentencing. At the risk of infuriating you further with another vague example - I encourage you to look up the clip of him running back with the flight of the ball to mark in front of an oncoming Barry Hall from a couple of seasons ago - hardly the handywork of someone gutless either.
I also believe it's unfortunate that he'll be tarred by this incident for a few years.
