That's a fair indication of intent.

Then he went and bagged Robbo for not having the smarts to be a good sledger. Muppet.

No worse than Richards in the sense that no-one would have blinked an eye lid had Richards not ended up with a ruptured spleen.

The fact that one of our favourites and a genuine ball player has ended up with a broken jaw makes it far worse than what it was. Milburn's was deadset [REDACTED]. Wellingham at least attempted to make a sloppy contest (and Cranium's pics back up my previous point that Heath Shaw's pissweak effort accounts for a lot of it also)

Don't think you'd have to say "swap the jumpers" and see the change in perspective, as Gibbs is third man up in a lot of similar contests week in, week out and gets savaged for not getting close. Who would you rather have if they were your team? Wellingham's effort or a dozen pissweak Jack Watts non-efforts from when we played them?

I suspected Mitch's thumbs might get a workout after Sharrod  basically called him a dumb c#%t on gameday.

It's staggering that you still haven't realised that you're the only poster who isn't really pissed with Wellingham's deliberate and gutless attack on Simmo; and keep bringing up (in your opinion) old examples of vaguely similar or worse infractions to try to prove your point.....and to what end?

To promote an argument?.....why?.....it doesn't matter who wears what color guernsey who was involved in whatever past example you trot out.....we are talking about the sniping attack on Friday night on an unaware ball player; that's put a stop to his consecutive run of 158 games; and thereby leaving a gaping hole in our midfield for 4-6 weeks.

To say the attack was mindless and completely unnecessary is a gross understatement; and I hope he does get a minimum of 4 weeks; and I reckon he would've got 8 weeks in the old VFL days.

3 weeks for Wellingham due to his five year good record

Sharrod Wellingham can accept 3 games rough conduct K Simpson. Penalty reduced due to five-year good record.

Sam Edmund has pointed out that Wellingham hasn't even played 5 years.

Warby, why do you continually trot out these invalid isolationist arguments? Every time it's "Well, everyone else can see my point" or "You're the only one who thinks this", when neither are really true? A quick look through the thread will reveal at least a few others who have said that it wasn't as malicious as it is made out to be (Heavs for example).

I'm pissed that Simmo is injured. Wellingham's attack was deliberate, but hardly the thuggery it's made out to be on here... between this and the Lonergan tackle, we're quickly developing a reputation as a supporter base for over-exaggerating these sorts of events.

You're right, it is shithouse. And I hope he does get weeks on the basis that we lost a player out of it also, but only through the ramifications of the incident, rather than the incident itself. If Simmo only had a concussion, and played the next week, I wouldn't have batted an eyelid had the result been a 50m penalty. Would you have?

Of course it's mindless - along with the thousands of other one percenters that will happen during the course of any game. We're hardly talking pre-meditated Underbelly hits here.

Are you suggesting that the VFL tribunal were far more harsh in handing down sentences than the current one? I'll defer to your seniority here, irrespective, I'd be surprised that such an incident didn't happen on a weekly basis.

I think Wellingham is primarily a ball player - his clean tribunal record over the space of 5 years reflects this. Barring a direct trip to the tribunal, it will also be reflected in the sentencing. At the risk of infuriating you further with another vague example - I encourage you to look up the clip of him running back with the flight of the ball to mark in front of an oncoming Barry Hall from a couple of seasons ago - hardly the handywork of someone gutless either.

I also believe it's unfortunate that he'll be tarred by this incident for a few years.

Picked up from Perth by the Pies in the rookie draft at the end of 2006. He's in the system...I think that's what they go off?

Just made who I won't support in the finals very easy.

What if that incident happens in the first 5 minutes of the game or in a GF.

FMD. I would love to meet these gutless pricks in finals.

Run through flower Thomas and Pendlebury and put them out for Sept and see how they like that.

flower disgrace.

I had thought it was from senior debut and IMO that's when it should be from.

Have to give the other Robbo a lot of love too, after his calling the blow 'a dog's act 'today on SEN.
Robbo, I'm sorry I dropped you, let's get back together.

if you didn't here him today, he'll probably repeat it all tonite on 360.
He and Harf both thought it was deliberate.Harf saying there were a few steps for Weasel Wellingham to decide what to do.
and there were.
and it was
a dogs act. except a good dog woudn't.
sorry Rhino,
can't overstate this one.

It's based on the year he debuted (2008).

They'd be pretty happy with that. My views on the act itself aside, still worth 4..

2008+5=2013 though?

Full report

Also was assessed as reckless and not intentional.

Collingwood must be grinning at the stroke of luck having him on GameDay yesterday.
