On Friday night it will by D day for Ratts, he knows the teams performance against Collingwood will help decide his fate. That is not an opinion that is the nature of the beast.

For a bloke who entered the club as a 14 year old through a scholarship and went on to be a 3 time B & F winner, 3 time all Australian, Club Captain, Club HOF and a Premiership player he knows what is required on Friday night.

I personally wish him the best, he wears his heart on his sleeve and only wants the best for the Carlton football club. Whether he is the man to take us forward or not i hope we can treat him with the respect he deserves. But until that point of no return lets back him in and ride the rest of this season out. The rest will be as they say Que Sera, Sera.

We need to treat our champions with respect and not cannibalize our own, Ratts is one of us, he bleeds for the club just like we do.

Ratts give us this one on Friday night, give it everything you have left. Either way you will always be one of the great blokes to be apart of the Carlton Football Club and will always be Blue family.

Last week hurt bad and their was alot of emotion but we all have been around football long enough to know the consequences of a poor result against our arch rivals who are chomping at the bit for revenge.

Give us this one on Friday night, you gave us hope and then took it away, Friday night is a big chance to give hope back!

I'm torn between giving you a hearty "Hear, hear!!!" and suggesting it's perfectly legit to judge the player and coach separately.

Ratten was a great player for us, and he did some great things for our footy team on the field. I don't think anyone is trying to take that away from him.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though Ratts has the same abilities or influence as a coach.

Maybe not but he has given it all he has, whatever the case may be lets show him that he is still loved by the faithful. Lets show other clubs the way you should treat club champions.

Get behind him until the bitter end.

We are Carlton. We will rise again.

Good on you Benji.

Ratts does give it all. Always has.

Ratts the player, brilliant.

Ratts the coach, average at best.

Giving you're all in potentially your last game would be the reason why he has failed as a coach.

If he wasn't one of our own i might be singing a different tune. But he is, and we need to support him.

Everybody knows what will happen if we lose by 10 goals on Friday night, the vulchers we be circling.

I just hope as a club we handle this situation we great respect to one of our own.

I'm going to sound callous, but I think you can't afford to be that way.

Cutting guys slack because they played for us is a recipe for mediocrity.

You love them forever as ex-players. You make them life members. You put their names on lockers. You name stands after them, put them in your team of the century, you tell their story to every new recruit, and when they die you sprinkle their ashes on your home ground.

But when it comes to $500,000 - $1,000,000 senior executive positions (which is what the senior coach is) you treat them the same as you would anyone else.

Loved Ratts as a player. Think he's harming the club as a coach.

Just out of curiosity, wonder if Ratts will ever be able to come back to the club after this.
Obviously in the immediate aftermath of his departure he will most certainly be gone and I think we all agree he will not be a senior coach of an AFL club next year.

It's perfectly foreseeable, however, that he'll get picked up as a development or assistant coach somewhere else (if Harvey and Riley can then...). I think without the burden of the senior job and the massive responsiblities it entails, I think he'd excell at achieving a more specific task that can be the centre of his focus.

Loved Ratts as a player, love the passion he has for the club, and from personal experience I can say he's a lovely bloke. The sad thing will be assuming he gets booted, he'll probably become an assistant at another club, something that would hurt us and him.

But no matter how you want to spin the current situation, it's hard to escape that he's at least partially responsible for what's happening out there, and this means he needs to be accountable. I'm sure he understands this, and wouldn't want anyone crying for him. His shortcomings in this role have now been exposed, and the evidence mounts to what many "doomsayers" have been saying for a while. The sign of a great coach is one who can have his players triumph when everything is stacked against them, to "adapt and overcome" and it seems clear that he lacks this ability.

He hasn't been helped by the incompetence of others though, but he is part of the Carlton machine, one that is floundering in many areas when they should be dominating, and its unfortunate that he's the figurehead of this. Players, fitness, administration, communications, "culture", we've seen shortcomings of many areas of the club for some time now, but improved results have papered over the cracks. The time for excuses, deflecting, and covering arses has to end.

If he shows that inner strength, determination and skill as a player to coach he will be fine and the boys should perform well on Friday a 10 goal loss then it will definitely be time.
After all Ratten is one of Parko's boys like Lyon and Worsfold.

Unfortunately he can coach the best game he has ever coached and I still don't think it will be enough to win the game.

Simple confidence and class issue.

Hope I'm wrong.

I'd love to beat the Pies...but it shouldn't have a bearing on his longevity as coach. His weaknesses have been exposed and he hasn't been able to respond. It's simply about Carlton vs Collingwood.

I don't think it will. He's finished no matter what happens against the Pies. I just hope they get it over with soon. The media smells blood in the water and won't be letting up anytime soon and there's really no point making him sit there and watch the players go through the motions.
