I'd say based on that, bye bye Russell and Duigan. Possibly Gibbs also.

Make no mistake .. were not a hell of a lot better than Melbourne right now and were going down like a lead balloon

You forgot Essendon* and West Coast. Time for the boys to hit the weights room in the off season as we simply get out-bodied.

Didn't the Dick "fund raising" gigs and the new ground renovations give us an "elite" gym, comparable to the best in the AFL?? So why the flower do we have these teams still monstering us? Any real muscle definition with Bower, Gibbs, Robbo, Garlett, Lucas etc?? Mystifying. Honestly, it was men v boys y'day and Crows have had this over us for years, too.

BTW, there has been too much negativity towards Zach Tuohy around here lately. Sure, his form has dropped off, but he means it out there and a pre-season or two can only help his endurance, too. This guy's our future, he could be the hard body mid we will need in the next few years, has all the skill and attitude in spades.

I am only speculating here but it appears to me that the Carlton conditioning staff have prepared our players for a game plan based more on endurance running than on physical confrontation. Their frames are lighter because they have been trained and prepared differently. Some other teams have prepared for a different game plan and players body shapes highlight that. IF we could get the ball out of those stoppages into the wide open spaces and expose all those hulking/tiring gorillas for pace and fitness we would look like geniuses, be winning by 200 pts every week and everyone on here would be laughing at the gym junkies from the other teams. Unfortunately we forgot that we have to get the ball out to the runners in the 1st place so instead our highly tuned runners are just being smashed stupid at stoppage after stoppage. Other teams have been through the match tapes, seen a weakness and put some time into stopping us playing the game on our own terms. F1 cars are awesome and will leave a Landcruiser in their wake on a track. If you have to get through a swamp to get to the track in the 1st place, despite track times, the Landcruiser will smash the F1 car every time!

That doesn't wash - players like Vince, Van Berlo et al, not only looked bigger and stronger and smashed us in close, they also ran and worked harder all day.

I say keep Gibbs in the team, but give him a direct BALL WINNING role for the day in the middle. Poke him in the chest and say "shave your head, because those locks are going to get messy being under a lot of packs on the weekend, your job is in the middle. I want you first to the ball at stoppages and centre bounces."

Scotland and Walker into the middle, too. If those three can sort their shit out in the centre, we can actually look at winning some clearances and have enough decent rotations to lessen the impact of no Murphy.

Duigan, Russell - please go and see the Visy Park Tailor and get your measurements for a Northern Blues uniform. You'll be there for a while.

He had plenty of time in the middle yesterday - what makes you think if you poke him in the chest that he will start winning the ball in middle, just asking.

Lol. He wasn't really in the middle yesterday. He was well adrift of packs, floating around in no mans land, like Wilson when he fell off that crudely made raft in the ocean. The crowd was crying "Gibbsyyyyy" but he had drifted too far and couldn't be saved.

A poke in the chest could do wonders. It might be Ratten's missing ingredient as a coach.

I think they have the balance right.

All our guy's have gotten leaner.

Most of our guy's have arms like my Granny.

There isn't a set of shoulders in the club and the only chests of note belong to the WAG's.

Unless I was at another game yesterday (and in hindsight I wish I was) he contested a number of centre square ball ups.

I'd say based on all that tough talk it will be:

Out: Murphy, maybe Russell or Thornton
In: either Lucas or McLean

Dropping players for a game against Melbourne means nothing.

Dropping them for a game against an actual good side would be a much bigger call.

As much as I wouldn't mind seeing Gibbs sent back for a few weeks, I question what it will achieve also.

$1.01 that he racks up 40 touches, and might even be willing to put his head over the ball against kids half his size.

Just as likely we'd recall him straight away on the back of this, and its all a moot point. Melbourne do it all the time with Cale Morton.

If we're prepared (injuries notwithstanding) to bite the bullet and send him back for at least a few weeks, then I hope its something the MC consider. Otherwise, might as well keep playing him, and hope someone takes him next year.

Forget Dangerfield for Gibbs. Boak for Gibbs is a lot more realistic.

Which one is McInnes, is he the one with the Glass shoulders, the Glass Knees or the Glass hamstrings?

Serious?!? Did you watch the NB coverage on ABC? He is miles from being elevated!

In fact based on that game there is no-one available for elevation because Bootsma and Bucks were the only two and they are not ready for AFL, especially physically!

Watched McInnes a few times and every time he has been neat. Wouldnt mind seeing how he goes at AFL level against Melbourne that is.

Just speculating on the apparent difference in body shape, cant comment on personal commitment and effort.
