Jim who would you see Rowe coming in for assuming he were to be selected?
Not sure yet? It could be AJ with Touhy going back there or it could simply be for Touhy. Slot Rowe into the key position, leave Thornton at CHF, move Waite to Walker's spot with the latter in the midfield. Waite and Walker would rotate midfield and half forward.
For now though that's just thinking out loud.
Jim, Last year we rotated Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Robo through the HFF line and got great results from it. We also got good results from playing Walker deep forward as a KPP (of sorts). Playing Tbird, Rowe, Waite and K/Hampson in the forward line at once would be a massive change. I think its too much of a departure from the things that work well for us. That being the fast forward line and the press.
I think such a tall marking forward line would compromise our defence and doubt the coaches would go for it.
We are playing Walker more in the midfield this year as the coach said. We know Waite is as much a midfielder, running HF as much as key position. That the beauty of his versatility. Not a bad thing to add to those rotations. Contested marking is back in vogue, not that it really ever left.
On the other hand, you have a good point and having Waite play KP forward for the reasons above really adds to the mobility of our forward line. Makes it so much easier to rest the ruckman in the FP without losing anything regards to pace and mobility or contested marking.
So, putting all that together, your point might well be better than mine, especially as it's tough to rest the ruckmen on the bench these days. I may have to concede to that one.
