I would try Watson as a forward......
His long kicking from his left side could be a real asset......
This could work provided he gets himself up on his fitness. His left peg is a weapon ... suitable for long distance shooting and placing short balls inside 50 (a real weakness for us).
He isn't the answer though for our most glaring weakness up forward and that is someone that can stand under the ball and mark close to goals. in finals football you are always going to have the long bomb and this is where we fall short. The Eagles on the other hand have this type of forward in abundance. They have players with size BUT also a presence.
How many Carlton players have a presence. Go back to our last premiership team and you will see whay I mean by having players with a presence.
Quentin Lynch has about as much presence as Leigh Brown, Koschitzke and Hawkins. Just a big dumb footballer who can mark and kick it a mile. These four have less presence than Paul Chapman. Hurley and Brown have IT. Kreuzer has presence.
Why wouldn't we throw Henderson forward?
Henderson's courage, clean marking and reading of the play has been impressive. The brave mark Henderson took against St Kilda could easily have been Lachie streaming forward and marking going back with the flight. Great mark where he didn't take his eyes off the ball to beat Riewoldt at his own game.
I don't see why Watson won't improve his intensity once he gets fitter and stronger. And starts to believe he's an AFL player. Mackenzie and Schofield weren't great against Henderson last year, yet have improved out of sight this year. The former towelled up Cloke last week.
