He had a bad car accident and he's a quadriplegic now.
A bit too harsh to say he deserved it.

This thread has the details on Allison. I don't think we need to discuss it further here.

AFAIC, Hamil did what Barassi, Diesel, Wells, Spalding, and a few others before him, and Juddy, Ablett, and a few others after him did. He split for the cash.

The players and administrators all got over it. Good ordinary player who most of us would've said bled for the club (in fact most would've ironically said he bled for the jumper). Played with the Spirit of Carlton when he was here.

Shame on us that we became a rabble and allowed shit like that to happen in the early part of this century!!!! It should be happening the other way round (a la Judd).

PS, if we're up in arms about a shot-to-pieces, rough'n'tumble short-ass CHF who couldn't kick, imagine how WCE fans feel every time Juddy has another "3 votes - Cee-Judd" game for us!!!!

This is a good post because it reflects the reality (although I have a higher opinion of Hamill as a player I suspect). He was offered more money and had a run-in with Big Jack over it. Possibly the two things combined were enough whereas one or the other may not have been. Most of the supporters of the day loved Big Jack because the cap cheating hadn't been discovered yet.
Hamill was a great player for us next to Whitnall and would have been a great player at StK next to a Reiwoldt in full flight. In the team we have now with it's forward defensive mindset, he would have been an outright star paying the Walker role of medium forward. IMO he was just a bit short for CHF but he could certainly take a contested mark and split packs better than anyone we have up front today.

Lets not forget, Jezza walked away from the club and went to StK over a difference of opinion with the board. Nobody gets into him over it. He just backed the wrong person and had to leave or swallow his pride. Of course not many people like the taste of humble pie so he took the easier option.

Things happen in footy. Players come and go. In another time Hamill may well have stayed. If he says he's a Carlton man, that's good enough for me.

If he considers himself a Carlton person, it's fine by me. He played 92 (?) games for the Blues, which is 92 more than I did. And I'm a Carlton person.
After his first game against us, the Blues players, almost to a man, went to him and shook hands.

Don't think he had to many enemies amongst our playing group. Which IMO says a fair bit about how our players felt about him.

So, welcome home Aaron, now hit your kick and put some money in SOC.

You'd want to be a little flexible with that, otherwise you might have to include Jezza.

I had a feeling somebody would raise this about. Jezza's situation was very different as it involved political turmoil. It was a very bad time at Carlton. When members ousted George Harris they knew it also meant Jezza is the same bundle. The club tried to talk Jezza around but the latter was living in times where your word was you word. He felt he owed it to Harris who gave him the captain - coaching position.

Hamill was more out of greed and being misguided as to where he really stood in the pecking order. He believed all the back slappers.

The question I always had about Jezza leavingwas that you would have thought Harris would have talked Jezza into staying, as nothing good could have come out of him leaving . Well , I think we may have traded for Peravic then?

There are NO mitigating circumstances with Hamill. He was a mercenary who deserted the club that nurtured him. He was even told that if he accepted the 350k over the first two years, his salary would have increased significantly with retirements in 2002-2004.

He left my son shattered. My son met him at Brunswick baths in 99 and Hamill chatted to him for ages after he saw him wearing a Blues beanie. Also gave him a a hug and then waved to him from the car. From that day, my son wanted No 4 on his back

Flower off and don't ever set foot in our surrounds again. And as for David Allison, he almost singlehandedly tried to hold the club to ransom.

Let us never talk about Aaron Hamill and the Carlton Football Club again in the same breath.

Over the years my anger has subsided. At the time could not accept a player would leave our club voluntarily. However my hatred for Campo is as strong as ever. At least we got pick 4 for Hamill. Campo stitched us up when we were on our knees. Willing to accept Aaron back at the club but never Camporeale.

Campo & Hamil are cut from the same cloth, having said that Campo is a premiership player & used to give it to the scummers like no one else, hence why I could never understand why he went there!

He is the ultimate Judas!

To be frank, I think it just paints a picture of how shit our club must have been at the time; in terms of being there and playing your footy week in, week out.

As a player who is just as likely to be traded or moved on at the coach's whim I can understand why, in some circumstances, they just want out regardless of the destination.

My brother-in-law spoke to Campo at a Auskick clinic. He said he just wanted out, wasn't getting along with pagan, wasn't enjoying his footy and Essendon* were keen on him. To be fair, he didn't make a public fuss before or after, unlike Beaumont or even Kouta.

I still feel a bit uneasy about him but I'm not angry or feel hatred

The interview itself with Hamill is quite good. He speaks very well.

If Aaron (big bad jack hurt my feewings) Hamil considers himself a Carlton man, that his prerogative.

To me he's St Kilda...
