To be in the top four most of the year coming off the back of two failed finals campaigns, it would really sting. The thing is, Essendon* have nothing to lose when you look at it. They're a young team, nobody really expects them to do much come finals time, they will be the underdog against us. Ratten has pressure on him to win a final, as does the team, we've often been talked about as a top four side this year, and we knocked them off by 74 points a few weeks ago. The pressure is more on us than it is them. As much as I don't care for the bloke, I reckon Malthouse delivered the best reply to the old "we've got nothing to lose" cliche. He said "yes you do, you can lose the right to play in the, (whichever), final". The winner of this game will play West Coast in the next final - the prize is the same for both teams. This is great though isn't it? Games like this make footy worthwhile. It'll be the first game I've cared about "this" much for a long time. Be interesting to see what we do about the St.Kilda game too, (effort, team selection etc), since it really doesn't matter to us. Great points made Kev, but I'd say that us losing a final for the third year running would have bigger repercussions than Essendon* losing one where it's clear they aren't up to finals standard anyway after some of the results they've had this season. That aside, I agree, it's exciting stuff. Two big Victorian clubs in a cut-throat final in front of a packed MCG. The atmosphere would be electric.
