You and everyone else who didn't watch the first half of last year.

...and what about that final against the Lions the year before that when he was our BOG...tough, uncompromising and created plenty of opportunities. Houla has been doing well for the last 5 years imo. The team hasn't been great in the past and he was tarnished as a result, but I know he did really well in those dark years.

I couldn't respond to Drewgirl such was my sadness to read that post coming from her...

I've said this before and I'll say it again, that the negative attitude towards a damn good player was based on him pulling out of the contest 7 years ago...and then there were a few posters here on TC having a go at his hair style and a genuine hatred of the guy.

Those posters have mellowed since Houlihan proved his value to the team over the last couple of years. Yes I know they needed convincing, but Houla's consistency, class and flexibility changed the detractors' negative slander... then Drewgirl's comment appears...he's not that bad Drewgirl.

Can't wait for a fit and in form Houla joins this team on the rise. Blokes like him and Scotland deserve to see some success when they could have walked in the past for better offers. He'll add that extra bit of polish imo, and that's based on what he was like before he was injured. We should kick more accurate for goal with his return.

If he doesn't play with the same gusto in his return then maybe the injury has slowed him down and the game has passed him, but not because he is unaccountable.

Remember what he did to AA, Norm Smith and AA McLeod?

So does anyone think this is a danger game??

I dont i am very confident about this one we are there bogey team even when they were going ok.
So now that we are going ok and they are going pretty bad it should be in the bag.
Lets smash these pigs. Hope cornes plays and AW takes mark of the year on his and Brogans head haha!!

the very fact they are a club in crisis makes it a danger game

We should win by 40 instead of 100

When injury free, Houlihan has been in our top 10 players over the past 18 mths or so - was BOG in the brisbane final, performed quite well as a defensive forward in 2010 befor being injured (both in shutting down opponents and contributing on the scoreboard) and looked extremely good in the preseason matches before injury.

Its been a long time since houlihan could be considered a soft player.

Fair enough guys, I don't want to judge him on the past. He was fantastic up forward before he got injured last year. I don't think he should be playing back though. I think our dynamics as a team is right and don't want it spoiled.

Surely if Curnow plays, Brock doesn't?

Yeah, good point. That is a worry.

I'm also worried about the ships falling off the earth when they reach the horizon.

I think we will win this, but we will likely make it VERY difficult for ourselves.

Hope the boys prove me wrong and win by 100, but I'm predicting another ugly, frustrating game.
Motlop will give me a hernia somehow

Will always be soft, however forward line could do with his class. Woud rather Houla have 10 possessions to Carrots 30. Each of his kicks hurts the opposition. Prior to injury succesfully drew quality defenders away from the action to mind him.

Conundrum

Forecast for Sunday is for showers and wind, so ugly and frustrating is on the cards.

Be very interesting to see selections for this game.

I would be surprised if there were more than 1-2 changes (pending injuries) but there are several players up for discussion.

Possible Ins from: Curnow Touhy Warnock Henderson Houlihan AJ

Possible Outs from: McLean Hampson Armfield Laidler Duigan Russell Ellard

Last year round 4 against Adelaide. Great day. My first time at Football Park. Haven't seen so many mullets since the middle pages of Sticks' autobiography.

IMO this implies that Duigan or Russell or both might not play.
Tuohy isn't a 3rd tall so I don't think he's be taking Laidlers spot unless we don't need 2 talls in defense.

I'm guessing Hendo to come in for Laidler.
Houla to come in for Russell and play Carrazzo or someone else HBF.
And if Tuohy comes in as an attacking backman......maybe Houla will be given one more run in the Ants.

Tuohy is the form player in the Ants, so deserves the chance to play senior level. Fingers crossed.
