Both teams opened each other up at times, and both teams were hard at it.
I like the way Geelong mixed it up and broke the Pies armour...you know...that Roman wall shite Malthouse refers to.

I also think closing the space down for the Pies and hitting them hard can really unbalance them.

Now as for the Cats...it looks to me that they move the ball quickly and precisely. Forward of the receiver at all times so they don't break stride.

We have a greater running strength and faster in the speed stakes than Geelong.
If we can avoid clangers we will compete. They are a precision passing team even under those swirly wind conditions.

Oh yeah, last night goes to show what inaccurate kicking can do to lose the winnable game.

I watched the 2011 Carlton Pies game and in that first Q we really carved them up with pace. If we do that and kivk accurately we have just as much chance to beat them as we've had in the past.

We can win next week.

Warnock will need to play a blinder.
Russell will have a tougher job than past years if he plays on Johnson who is playing more in the midfield.
I would play Gibbs on either Joel Corey, Bartel or Johnson. Don't think he is as well suited to the in and under style of Selwood.
Duigan on Chappy?
Army on Stokes.
I suspect Scarlett, Taylor and Enright will be able to cover Waite and Setanta. The key will be Walker, Jeffy & Betts. And Warnock resting forward. Walker may get a defensive forward job on Enright or even on Wojo, stopping them setting up play or breaking lines out of defense, respectively.
We will also have to counter Ottens slipping forward to kick 2 or 3 goals??

Would love to see Judd v Selwood head to head. Or, even better, Murphy v Selwood!

Sadly, the game last night didn't seem to be too physically taxing for Geelong. And no major injuries for them. We will just have to beat them on merit!

They are a very good team but despite being undefeated, they are not the unstoppable force of recent years and provided we are on our game we have every chance of knocking them off.

Although it was only a pre-season game we completely dominated them just two months ago but our horrible wastefulness in front of goal (which sadly has continued) kept them in it and they stormed home to win by two goals. Sure, the teams will each be slightly different now but then surely we won't be so profligate again.

Will be a good game.

No way is Henderson, hampson and Watson ready to play. While hendo was ok in parts you would have expected him to dominate the young franks ton players. Watson worried me, absolutely no urgency or enthusiasm in his game yesterday.

I don't think anyone in the bull ants put their hands up yesterday. Mcinness was the best but they wont put him in.

I didn't watch the game yesterday, but from all reports/posts he was so and so with...well just what you said Drewgirl.

I think the sense of urgency would automatically ignite like the hairs on his neck if he is selected, but I can't help remembering that photo from training a week or so ago with Kreuzer monstering Watson in a marking duel....can't wait for the Kreuzer up forward and ruck roving...oh yeah and rucking every now and then.

The question is who would Watson match up on against Geelong if selected?
I would have thought Laidler and White would be considered before Watson...but is there a big body we would put Watson up against?

We really need Warnock to be a danger around the ground and forward to warrant Ottens keeing a close eye on him.

ULTIMATELY narrowed it down to Robinson or else not bringing in Laidler. I like Laidler's play so far and always like to see players against their old side. Final choice very tough and I'm not entirely sure which way to go. Perhaps Robbo as a sub? - part game only might suit him? Laidler gives an option down back and far better disposal. Close call - Robbo out.

Not sure why people want to drop Robbo or play him as the sub.
He deserves full game time in the ones on the back of his recent performances.

Hendo definitely wont come in. Playing well against Frankston doesn't mean much.
If he plays like he has recently he will be a passenger regardless.

I cant see Setanta going out either, has been serviceable, and Hammer hasn't set the world on fire in the twos.

Henderson could only come in to play KPD. Not performing well enough fwd but is big enough to cover one of their key fwds.

Given Ling is nowhere near as bad as first thought, predicting Geelong will have no change(if there were to be it would prob be a diff sub to come in & Christensen to be in 21)Id go with:
