Blues leave Judd out in the cold
While many of his teammates ventured to sunnier skies on golf trips or rugged up in front of their flat screen TV's watching the NBA playoffs, Chris Judd was given the cold shoulder yesterday as he completed a sharp training session on his own at Visy Park. The Blues Captain and reigning Brownlow medalist cut a forlorn figure as he shivered through one of the coldest May days in over a decade to chase his own football around the once hallowed turf.
The lack of players or coaching staff present at the one man training session is believed to be in response to Judd leaving many of his teammates off the invitation list at his nuptials to Rebecca Judd on New Years Eve. A source close to the club said many Carlton players felt alienated and had decided to 'give Judd some of his own medicine'.
The factions and in-fighting is nothing new at Carlton who are synonymous with salary cap rorting. Their own third-party deal with Judd through disgraced businessman Richard Pratt's 'Visy' company has been brought into question again in 2011, with Pratt matriarch Jeanne joining the Carlton board as Senior Vice President earlier in the year.
No Carlton official would return calls yesterday amid speculation an extraordinary board meeting would be called to address the Judd training session. Brett Ratten is believed to be privately seething the training was not closed to the public nor media. Judd's mother, Lisa Engel is also believed to be furious at her son placing his wife and unborn child at risk of serious respiratory infection.
A former Carlton person stated, 'The ramification of his actions are huge. I wouldn't expect Carlton to make the finals from here'.
