Surrey do you think maybe Roos developed a game plan suited to the ground the Swans played at and the list he had?

He wouldn't use the same gameplan with us.

Unfortunately it appears he isn't interested no matter how many $$$ the Pratts throw at him.

So how's everyone enjoying the season so far?

So many sooky la las here.

If TC was listened to by anyone important we'd have Voss coaching, Rich not Yarran (anyone want to swap now?), Fev would be on our list and not playing, Duigan would have been banished last week, Waite dropped and White wouldn't have got a game.

I here so much about give the kids a game and when they get one they are smashed by those on here for making silly mistakes.

Some of you need to have a look at yourselves.

Until we're winning every game by 10 goals some here will never be satisfied. Could be a long wait.

We'll probably have many-a-post like this between now and our 17th premiership in 2031 and then we'll get the very same people saying "I told you you were whinging about nothing!".

Geez you're a pessimist. I had us winning #17 by 2020. Imagine the Positive-Percies on this site then.

While that's true, you've got to factor in we're not privy to a lot of info inside the club.

The coach and the MC know when a player has responded to criticism or a rocket during the week, ala Duigan. Or when one player has demonstrated a superior working knowledge in taking on a key player, ala White. Or who's fit and who's not, who had niggles, how they're managing it.

We're dealing with incomplete information, and we're making calls. The Duigan call was right: Ratten gave him a bake. We just didn't hear what Nick had to say for himself. White was dropped for poor defensive play, and the MC opted to give his experience playing on Hurley a go to re-ignite his form, over sticking with the attacking advantages of Watson.

I'd hope the footy club has more insight, but I'll continue to make calls from week to week, as will many. We're interested in it, and as a group we're not that far off when we break things down and think critically.

And for the record, I'd reckon it was about 50/50 Yarran/Rich at draft time, and most wanted Fev gone after the Brownlow efforts. Not many people had much clue on the coaching situation, but thought Voss was a worthwhile candidate to interview. Calls in hindsight are irrelevant; people are just riding the wave at that point.

We're dealing with incomplete information and making calls

This is exactly my point. People have very strong opinions on what should happen without having all the facts.
Yes I know people are entitled to have one and all that...

Fellow carltonians,

We have played in 2 finals series, have potentially a one of the best midfield, have if not the best the 2nd or 3rd best player in the comp.

Then how did we lose against a side that came 4th last, has a rookie coach and 2 players down! I have seen the same mistakes made over the past 2-3 years. I am sick of it!!!!! we have not improved since last year or the year before. What i saw today was disgusting ie. gibbs was ball watching and just plain soft. Why did ratten move warnock back in the ruck after he kicked a goal!!!!

We do not have any players out there that play for the jumper. Essendon* from what i saw does play for the jumper.

Ratten has to go. this year is a write off. i know its round 4 but the signs are not good. i hope i am proven wrong.

We lost?

Wow, better not tell anyone at AFL house, they'll take the 2 points off us.

And they were one down, not 2.

No they were down 2 which compromised their run, their rotations, their use of the sub, their ability to alter matchups etc.

Yes with the sub the impact is not as great but the truth is about 1/2 through the first we had 22 fit players - 1 to be subbed on at our choice - and they had 20 and no choice of a sub. So it is 2 players down. 22 - 20 = 2 .

Which position would you rather be in if at the start of the game between 2 fierce rivals and close on the ladder competitiors you has 1 team with 22 (1 sub) and 1 team with 20 (0 sub) who would you think had the better chance?

1 player and a sub make up 100% of game time. They used 1 man for 1/2 a quarter and sub for 3 1/2 quarters. We used 1 man for 3 quarters and sub for 1. A small advantage to us but not that much.

I hate the scum as much as anyone but the reality is that at the end of 2009 they were 8th and we were 7th - both were emerging teams and we were seen to be at about the same stage of development. The comparisons were that we had one of the best emerging midfields and they had the best emerging (potential) KPPs.

Last year they had a year to forget - the wheels fell off and they performed well under expectations.

Some clubs have hiccups like that and then get over it - look at Geelong and Port in 2006, Fell out of finals then both made the big one n 2007. (not suggesting that Bombers will play off for a flag flag)

Also we only won 4 more games than Essendon* last year and their year was considered a disaster so maybe the gap was not as big as we think.

2 down but what about the query on Warnock actually making it through the match and maybe not coming out after half time
the bombers are great PR spinners they won the match didnt they :hitcomputer: -we didnt activate sub earlier because if warnock didnt come back or was limited Hendo was going to ruck

I was disappointed we didnt hang on to win but 3 goals behind after 1st quarter - I would take a draw - 4 of our forwards collins hendo hampson and betts were possibly the worst 4 players on the ground and we still drew
Lot of upside yet - lets see whether the bummers get anywhere near the carringbush next week

This is probably a skewed way of looking at past history. Essendon* fluked their way into the finals in 2009, with 10 & 1/2 wins, most of which were won off the boots of Lloyd & Lovett, and to a lesser extent Lucas all of whom left at the end of the year. Fletcher is still in their top 2 players, and he's 36.

We had a disappointing 2010, which was ruined by injuries to the likes of Kreuzer, Houlihan, Bower, Murphy, McLean and also Setanta, White, Austin

I am undecided on the coaching issue. As Malthouse said in an interview, the strength of your team is the determining factor and list management is not just the coach but many in the club. He said that he found it stupid how the coach was solely measured on win/loss.

I always enjoy going back to the start of the 2007 season. Bomber was a dead man walking. There had been a grating review at Geelong in the off season after a disappointing 2006 and a few people were not happy. Even before the season there was speculation that he was not up to it and when Geelong started the season badly, the newspapers were full with stories about when he would be sacked. Geelong won the flag and Bomber was suddenly a yogi of coaching.

Remember Michael Voss? Everybody on TC wanted to hire him as coach! He has been a disaster. Who says that a Roos would be successful at Carlton? He only has coached one team - who knows if he would fit in. Sydney has shown that they are very good at certain aspects of football management - lots of that outside the coaches responsibility.

Anyway...... success of a football team depends on many factors and some luck - this B&W view of the world on TC is sometimes disturbing. If we had won by one point as we should have - the climate would have been different in here.

Is it Ratts' fault that we have a problem with the lack of quality talls? Kreuzer done a knee, Josh Kennedy was the price to get Judd, Fev we had to get rid off. What if we had the team we have today but Josh and a well behaved Fev in the forward line??

Easy to say, don't bomb it into the 50 = but what do you do when there are no leading forwards? We are using ruckmen as FF's = who else has to do that in the comp? Should we not have given up Josh and had no Judd?

So many questions - so many issues and factors. None of which have anything directly to do with the coach.

Peace.

Great Post.

Anything can happen in Finals, just gotta get there and hope we are firing on all cyclinders.

2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss to reigning premiers by 28pts. I would take that in first 4 games. Draw was so disappointing, we are only 8 wins from securing another final berth.

Carlton aren't a great team yet. So l don't know why everyone is having all these high expectations. Calling for the coach to be sacked when we drew to a team that smash the losing grand finalists last year a week ago. Even if we got Malthouse or Roos, it would take a couple years to learn a gameplan. Took the pies 4 years to learn the forward press gameplan. I'm all happy for change of coach, but for the right reasons. I really think we need a gun superstar forward to win number #17.

I will sum this up, no offense to Jordan Russell intended, but when he is our 2nd best player in our BnF, we won't win our 17th premiership. Players like him need to be our 8th-10th best player. I was speaking to a couple pies fans about this and they don't think Jordan Russell would get a game with the Pies. Carlton need a lot more players improving past JR to be a premiership team.

Here's an example of when our game plan breaks down, and when a player gets unfairly bashed.

All game long, when Essendon* had the ball in their forward fifty, they dropped 1-2 players back 50-60m off the contest.

3rd Quarter, we win the stoppage. Carrots ends up with it, and looks forward to a target. Sees a 3 on 1 (Betts vs Fletcher et al). Holds the ball a bit longer, and slows down waiting for something to open up. No one presents an alternative to him. He holds on to it a bit longer. Essendon* start to close in on him. He's forced to kick long, knowing it's a turnover. It's a turnover. Carrots is bashed for something that is 100% not his fault. I was on the boundary looking at this unfold, you could see it all happening, and you could see Carrot's face as it was happening.

It must be incredibly frustrating to have that in front of you as a player.

Goltz, 10.5 wins won't do it this year; I dare say 11 won't do it any more.

Rubbish, but it's good to know Pies fans believe they know everything about football because their team is doing well.

I would imagine so, but I don't think any of us would blame him for that on review. There's plenty more errors to be found. He will bottle the ball up without good reason because he demands the football, then doesn't back his disposal to make an impact.

What is the drama?

Going into the bye (round 8 ), we will have a clearer picture. At that stage we should be 4.5 to 5.5 games out of 7. Winning the next 3 games would definitely have us ahead of last year.

with respect to development, yes Essendon* seems to be doing ok ie beaten Bulldogs and StKilda, but they also lost to the Swans. the fact that we drew with a team that is progressing....isnt that progress?????...following the logic.

with respect to our own development, sure there appears to be some obvious upside when we consider that we carried a couple of players. Pretty difficult to measure development or not when you are carrying players in a crunch game.

I think the biggest concern was the last qtr ie we got flogged in the centre clearances - usually our strength. And, It could be argued that the 1st qtr issue was as much about fwd line delivery (pressure on the ball carrier) as it was poor positioning from the fwds.

However, lets turn to the next 3 weeks - all challenges we should be able to overcome ie Adelaide, Swans in Syd and Saints.

As per players developing i would offer that these players have shown they have developed on 2010:
1) jamo
2) yarran
3) murphy
4) warnock
5) garlett
6) robinson
add new players curnow, duigan, laidler
plus best games of the year from Waite and White.

I'd recommend some perpsective. It is a long year. Some signals are good and some suggest we need to improve. give it time....blowing all your wind now is hopefully a waste of time
