Walker is an average player unfortunately.
But Murphy and Gibbs are not.
Goddard & Hodge weren't labelled 'superstars' until 23-24y.o.
Adam Cooney is just above Murphy and Gibbs IMO - but Gibbs has two years on Cooney.
But Murphy has really stepped up the ante in contested posessions and will get better as the year goes on. In fact he is three behind Dwayne Swan three rounds in and Swan has almost five years on Murphy.
Dwayne Swan wasn't labelled a 'gun' until he was 26.
As for Gibbs
Dwayne Swan 108 disposals 70% efficiency -- Gibbs 85 possessions 81% efficiency three rounds in.
Some perspective thanks.
The thing I and all Blues supporters want to see is these number one picks start to pick it up in big games.
That didnt happen Fri night
On your points you have made.
Time is still on both players sides( MUrphy and Gibbs)
but Hodge won a Norm Smith at 24 which was no suprise so I reckon your off the money there
Goddard took a while to get going true but he has the body type to play almost anywhere. That has aided his development. Murphy is a small player. Can really only be a mid/forward
I had a huge respect for Swan 4 years ago. He simply was underrated by almost everyone
Stats as I have said are convenient in backing up a point and have some relevence but dont reflect the whole story.
Swan is extremly strong through the core and very quick off the mark and always has been. Once he could run out games he was always going to be a star.
Murphy to me is a good player but I cant see where the x factor is with him
As for Gibbs there are some parallels with him and Travis Johnstone.
Great kick great vision and an ability to read the game ahead of nearly every other player.
But he never got out of second gear and in the end he finished his career as a loose man in defence gathering cheap and easy possessions just liked Gibbs was doing in the second half of Friday's contest. Thats the concern with me and if Gibbsy is that good he should be in the thick of the action when any game is on the line
They are both good players but the jury is out that both will elevate their game to the next level.
You give up a lot to get number one picks.
