Hmmm ... I thought Thornton did some good things against Richmond .. I watched the game again last night. I thought he did a hell of a lot better than White.

yes you might be preaching to the wrong crowd..
I thought his last quarter when he was playing loose with no opponent was pretty decent. I don't like him as a one on one defender which makes him a bit one dimensional as a defender.
A bit like Jason Cloke, and how he dominated as the 3rd floating defender without an opponent.
As soon as accountability became the catch cry, Jason was off to the Bendigo Bombers.
Remember how good Jason Cloke looked in the backline without an opponent.
IMO, one dimensional and basically we're leaving one of their players unaccounted for.
TBird is miles too short for Zac Smith 205cm / 97 kg vs TBird 192/ 94 kg....yeah right, and I can see it now, just as I've seen it before:
TBird, Jamo, White are all too small for giants like this.
Have a look at their CHF Dixon 200cm / 101 kg vs White 193/ 90 kg......get where I'm coming from?
The average height for footballers in all positions is increasing. We need to follow that trend in the backline.
Someone said (I think Lugaua ??? said it) it was 'stupid' to pick Watson in the backline for his first game.
Have a look at Watson's size. It's not just about experience, but also horses for courses. I don't think I recall Watson doing anything in the preseason or in the NAB cup that suggests he's not ready for AFL. He's the sort of height we need to combat some of these kids I mentioned above.
It's also not unusual for a first year player to be blooded in his first year.
It's not unusual to play, say, a ruckman in his first year who is 200cm ahead of the next tallest who might be 193cm tall to play in the ruck ahead of the taller player (with the more appropriate height for that position). TBird rucked against Sandilands last year. What a joke that was. But there wasn't anyone else available on the list. Does that make things right? Would we have picked a kid who was available at 200cm to play against Sandilands and their 2nd ruckman? I bet the answe would be yes...especially if they were a TAC AA and a first round pick with a mans body.
Get real. Welcome aboard Watson.
