i reckon ellard will come in as the sub so we have another runner in the second half. Probably replacing carrazzo, curnow or if we are flying murphy or judd.

Ellard's an emergency Gez. The sub comes from the four named on the bench.

Sub can come from someone on the field too; Lucas was named on the wing on Wednesday last week but then made sub.

No Bower again I see. I hate to say this, but why is the club always so dishonest about Bower’s injuries? It happened all through last year – and is happening again this year. Ratts said one week ago that he was almost right to go, just needed to give him one more week. Yet he’s missing again, and wasn’t listed in the injury list. Why do they keep doing this?

Maybe he could play if he was really required to play at 90% fit but in this instance the club has decided to give him 1 more week to make sure he is 110%. Not everything is a conspiracy theory.

yes you might be preaching to the wrong crowd..

I thought his last quarter when he was playing loose with no opponent was pretty decent. I don't like him as a one on one defender which makes him a bit one dimensional as a defender.

A bit like Jason Cloke, and how he dominated as the 3rd floating defender without an opponent.

As soon as accountability became the catch cry, Jason was off to the Bendigo Bombers.

Remember how good Jason Cloke looked in the backline without an opponent.

IMO, one dimensional and basically we're leaving one of their players unaccounted for.

TBird is miles too short for Zac Smith 205cm / 97 kg vs TBird 192/ 94 kg....yeah right, and I can see it now, just as I've seen it before:
TBird, Jamo, White are all too small for giants like this.

Have a look at their CHF Dixon 200cm / 101 kg vs White 193/ 90 kg......get where I'm coming from?

The average height for footballers in all positions is increasing. We need to follow that trend in the backline.

Someone said (I think Lugaua ??? said it) it was 'stupid' to pick Watson in the backline for his first game.

Have a look at Watson's size. It's not just about experience, but also horses for courses. I don't think I recall Watson doing anything in the preseason or in the NAB cup that suggests he's not ready for AFL. He's the sort of height we need to combat some of these kids I mentioned above.

It's also not unusual for a first year player to be blooded in his first year.

It's not unusual to play, say, a ruckman in his first year who is 200cm ahead of the next tallest who might be 193cm tall to play in the ruck ahead of the taller player (with the more appropriate height for that position). TBird rucked against Sandilands last year. What a joke that was. But there wasn't anyone else available on the list. Does that make things right? Would we have picked a kid who was available at 200cm to play against Sandilands and their 2nd ruckman? I bet the answe would be yes...especially if they were a TAC AA and a first round pick with a mans body.

Get real. Welcome aboard Watson.

Het Blue Rob, you haven't got anything to worry about having Bower missing.
You must be really happy.
You've got your star players in KPD roles: TBird and White vs 205cm and 200 cm athletic players.
Good onya.

So here is how it's going to go:

- The next two days we will hear GC, GC, GC, GC, GC, GC and a little more GC.
- Come 8pm AEST Saturday night, it will be oh the GC are going to be better than everyone expected this year
- Come 8.30pm AEST the GC will be too young and inexperienced
- Come 10.30pm AEST the media will be labeling the AFL at fault for filling a new team full of kids and putting them up to a seasoned 'Salary Cap Cheating' AFL club so early.

Reasons the GC should be concerned:

- 11 kids debuting and a NRL player.
- Senior players without a pre-season in Ablett, Brennan, Bock. Young gun Smith underdone also.
- List cloggers in Krakeour, Stanley and Harris.
- Seriously undermanned defence
- Seriously undermanned forward line
- Two unaccountable back flankers to play on Betts/Garlett
- Chris Judd's 200th game

Form?

- The GC have won barely a game in any competition they've played in.
- They are coming off a thumping by Brisbane in their last NAB Challange match and poor pre-season form apart from a charity game against Sydney.
- The GABBA is more of a home ground to us than GC, we have exposed form and have only lost due to 3 guys called Black, Brown and Power.
- Carlton if not for poor kicking at goal would've thumped Richmond by 10 goals. Reiwoldt single handedly kept Richmond in the game.

Mark my words, this will be messy for the AFL. Anything less than a 10 goal win to Carlton is a failure if we want to be hosting a home final in 2011.

I hardly have a record for conspiracy theories around here - I just felt we told quite a few fibs about Bower last year (he was one week away for about 4 weeks twice over) and am worried we are doing so again. I rarely criticise the club but feel that with injured players, and especially with Bower, they have taken the supporters for a bit of ride. Maybe it's to fool the opposition? Perhaps - but gone are the days where that works, everyone in the industry knows who's playing, so really it's just the supporters who are left in the dark.

One thing I did notice in the injury list this week was that Kreuz is labelled as indefinite - that sounds worrying, Ratts had said he is 2-3 away from playing VFL. Do I have reason to worry?

It doesn't really matter to the media if we win or lose on Saturday.

Win and "Carlton only played Gold Coast a young team full of inexperienced teenagers" blah blah blah
Lose and "Carlton played an emotional and hyped up young fresh Gold Coast side making history in their debut" blah blah blah

Damned if we do and damned if we don't.
