After viewing the bullants result I will ask the question, who do we drop next week and which spud do we bring in from the twos? Or will we just wheel out the usual sack ratten bullshit.
Thornton was in the best and he usually does pretty well at that level. Armfield & Houlihan are coming back from injury lay-offs and should be in the mix. Houlihan may have played a half for the Bullants today.
Yes Jimmae, i think we have missed Houlihan and Armfield always give 100%
But isn't everyone saying Houlihan and Thorton are gone and that playing them is going backwards?
Thornton has an issue with his use of possession, however last season he was one of the club leaders in terms of setting up chains of possession. People look to blame him and he does deserve a bit of the flak, but the change in forward structure has definitely unsettled our ball movement because we have no confidence in our 'traditional' lead targets, and the ball isn't well crumbed because our smalls are busy making leads or not on the same page.
Furthermore, our midfield run has been poor, to the extent where I personally feel our forwards and defenders are doing extra work while select midfielders coast around the place looking busy. The lack of responsibility in midfield for all three phases of our play (defence, transition, attack) has undermined players at either end. Thornton is probably the biggest victim of this.
Houlihan has been fantastic this year after working on his defensive game last season. People rave about Carrazzo's lame attempts to tag, but Houlihan was helping shut down opposition run off HB and grabbing goals and assists just about every game. It would seem only injury has curtailed his output to this point.
