We can blame Ratts for many things, gameplan, coaching moves, selection, trading etc. but he was one of the toughest players to play for our club and would not be responsible for our boys shirking the issue. They only need to look in the mirror to see where that blame lies.
Maybe they shirk because they haven't learnt to earn their position in the side - There are a shit load of players who have been given game time just because we have tried to get games into our youth and haven't really had to earn their spot in the side . They have been picking on potentail for a few years now instead of picking players who showed form
Murphy- Gibbs - Yarren Garlett- Betts- Hampson- Jamison- Joseph - Kruezer - Lucas - Bower - Setanta - Scotland - Houlihan- Walker Armfield and even Russell since Ratts took over have never had to earn their place in the side . You can see what the recent efforts of Grigg and Warnock the difference it makes when they have to force their way in
There seems to be this urban myth out there that once we have a core group at 100 plus games everything will fall into place - That will only happen if they have worked hard to get to 100.
It has come about through supporters and the club losing patience and demanding that our early draft picks be played every week we had enough of the crap and demanded to see the future
Pagan actually tried to hold some back as he did with Russell and Harlett and Edwards but everything for him came unstuck when he promoted Gibbs to the leadership group - Have a feeling that created an us and them with in the playing group and then things really turned to shit when Leading teams come on board and replaced some of the us's with a few of the them's
