But ppl are calling for Davies to be given a game next week.....we used our 2nd ND pick on him.....ppl at Carlton say he has good penetration with his kicking....coz they are too scared to talk about his accuracy.
Don't believe any stories that there weren't better kicks still up for grabs in the draft.
But when you are briefed to draft "toughnuts" you pass on a player with silky footskills like Roberton for a physically mature Davies.
One is already contributing at senior level while we still trying to teach our guy how to hit a target.
Unfortunately the brief to the recruitment seems to change markedly each year, and unfortunately good footskills doesn't seem to be a constant requirement to get drafted.
The recruiters need to work to 3-5 year plan, not a "this is what we want this year" from the footy dept.
Great post!
We are very reactive... after last year's GF the MC decided we needed more physical types like Rooke, Mclean etc as if putting your body and having silky skills are mutually exclusive! (Rooke can actually kick)
I was keen on Roberton primarily because of his skills and where he would be drafted. He put his body on the line every time it was required against the Demons tonite!! In fact, his skills on his non preferred are better than half of our list on their preferred!!
BTW Fyfe is pretty hard at it and skilful at the same time... pretty impressive considering he's a stick!

Both of you are doing a good job of kicking players before they've even debuted and settled into senior football.
See the rhetoric posted about Yarran last year.
Or Kennedy when he was at Carlton.
We want skills, but you also want toughness as well.
Trade Gibbs for a hardnut and then trade Davies for a skilled player.

Lucas has been better than Fyfe, but pinged two hamstrings.
Where's the love for Hughes?

Obviously comprehension is not a strong point Kouta!
Show me one post where I have bagged Kennedy, Yarran, Gibbs or Lucas!
I'm not even having a crack at Davies... by all reports he is a ripping kid and I hope he does well. He has a terrific work ethic; two years ago he was told his kicking needed to improve and he worked incredibly hard and he is a much better kick now! But he's kicking is never likely to be better than average!
The point I was trying to make is a player can have good skills, be hard at it and tough all at the same time!!!
I love Lucas... he is selfless, brave, skilful, talented and tough (unlike most of his teammates)! Imagine that, talented, tough and skilful all at the same time! Very much like Fyfe, you don't need to be physically developed to be hard at it ( Roberton etc).... don't need to compare Lucas and Fyfe we could have had both.
Compare Fyfe (at a 1/4 of the cost) and Brock!
