Gibbs will probably go to Goodes. Wouldn't mind Russell having a crack at him.

I'd start with Murphy in defence. It might teach him to be more accountable, and it may do him good to be the hunter rather than the hunted for awhile. Obviously we don't want him to be drawn to deep, and that's where he and his teammates will have to coordinate themselves to get the right match ups/positioning. AJ to do a shut down role on Sydney's running half backs. And I've been calling for this for a few weeks, but I'd bring Ellard into the midfield mix. Let's see what he's got to offer us (eg. does he have the potential to be an upgrade on Carrots?).

If Carlos is injured, give him another rest. If not, let him find some form in the VFL.

I didn't see the VFL game yesterday, but unless Austin or White had a blinder (I note neither were named in the 'best'), I think T-Bird holds his spot.

I'd persist with Hammer. I'd like to see how he goes in a forward line with Waite & Hendo functioning. I thought he made a reasonable contribution in the 2nd half yesterday, and I think what his development needs now is more exposure to the AFL tempo.

If Hendo doesn't come up, I suppose it's a choice between Fisher, Wiggo, Austin & White (Levi isn't ready, IMO).

Ultimately though, I think it's not so much about personnel for us. It's more about playing harder, smarter, and more as a TEAM.

Otherwise, not only will we not beat Sydney, we won't make the finals...

Cant see it happening ABS. Ratts is in "save my job mode" . He'll revert to picking the safest team or the team that will draw the least amount of flak iIf it all goes to sh1t again.

Don't expect any bold or creative coaching until there seasons gone down the crapper and Ratts has nothing to lose.

It's the only reason Gibbs should get a game, problem is this poser, (yes poser) knows it because he probably figures he'll get Goodes if its a run with role.

If I was Roos I'd play Goodes out of the forward line and then Gibbs will go somewhere else or get his pants pulled down by Goodes.

Ratts , show us you've got a pair, and drop Gibbs. Don't take the soft option again by dropping second stringers or crucifying guys by giving them one whole game to get in the swing.

I've lost faith too..not because I thought we were a top 4 team yet..but because I thought we had a team that was hungry to succeed and aim as high as they could.
What we seem to have is a bunch of disparate people who suffer each others company on the field, and kick back, quite contentedly on their very comfortable incomes.
Maybe they are too smart..winning isn't everything to them.
They invest, study, and think of life beyond footy.
Winning a premiership is not neccessarily their priority.
Maybe we've been hiring the wrong type of player...?

Maybe..or..will they snap out of the slump and restore our faith?
Maybe there should be an open night after a loss like this, where supporters get to tell the players how they feel when it looks like the players don't really care.
It's not that they lost..
it's how they lost.

Yep these would be my changes - maybe would remove Joseph as well.
I think Grigg was stiff to be dropped after his first game back and surely Lucas has better skills than some of the "dribblers" we had playing yesterday.

2 weeks...through suspension not injury?
Is that bluster??
It #$% well better be.
No Waitey in I'm gonna start smashing things..
although...our forward structure was ENTIRELY pleasing against Dogs,so I can se why he might hesitate.

Ratten says a lot of things.

What he says and what he does are poles apart.

Gibbs needs to have a good hard look at how Joel Selwood goes about it. He needs to be winning contested ball in the middle. The coach needs to be proactive and stop using one of our most talented players as a tagger.

Keep Mitch Robinson in. I don't care how dodgy his skills are, at least he hurls himself in like he cares if we win or lose. A simple game plan please. We don't want players trying to work out the Theory of Relativity before they decide which option to take.

Forget stats. For one week don't collect or refer to stats. The only stat that actually matters is who is ahead on the scoreboard. No wonder the players look disinterested if the coaches can only communicate statistics and KPIs. It is a footy team and not an insurance company. You don't need stats to tell you we are hesitant, not desperate, have poor skills, few leaders etc etc.

Try and be different.

Give Ellard a game. Could he possibly be worse? Why on earth retain him on the list if we have no intention of playing him. He is bog every other week in the 2s.

We were truly dreadful and our coach and his staff sound out of their depth. Big test here to see if there is any leadership at the club and if Ratten can get the players to understand his message and play with some belief and passion.

Process is fine, but there is more to footy than process and stats.

I generally agree with making changes to shake things up, but I'm not sure who truly deserves to be dropped and who truly deserves to come in.

I think Jamo needs a chance to go to the Bullants and dominate an opponent and get some confidence back. At the moment he seems to be taking an extra second to find his option and that leads to pressure. It was a tough game yesterday, but I just feel as if he's currently struggling a bit the last few weeks.

Gibbs' disposal has been ropey since he went into the backline. He gets it a lot, but I'm not convinced he's in decent form.

I firmly believe the team was better without Thornton, whatever his plusses or minuses.

I think Waite should have to come back though the seconds, but we need him in the seniors.

I'm not convinced Fisher is the answer, but you have to reward form, yes?

And on it goes.

So, I'd be tempted to make the following changes:

OUT: Jamison, Thornton, O'Hailpin, Joseph
IN: Waite, Fisher, Ellard, Lucas

Walker - Bower - Armfield
Lucas - Waite - Russell
Yarran - Ellard - Scotland
Robinson - Henderson - Simpson
Garlett - Gibbs - Betts

Jacobs - Judd - Murphy

Fisher - Carrazzo - Hampson - Houlihan

The biggest change is Gibbs at Full Forward. He can mark, kick, lead and read the play. Why not?

Yeah that's a fair line up or get Grigg and Gibbs making leads from the goal line. A two pronged attack... definitey need to try something different.

There should be and no doubt will be a few personnel changes that might appease a few critics but the main issue that can't be ignored is the continuing breakdown of whatever Rattens method and system of play is.
This is THE issue that needs to be addressed and if it isn't then any confidence the playing group has left will quickly disappear.

We need to eradicate complacency.

I'd love to smack out a few players right this very minute.
We need to instill fear, desire and desperation.
Fear of failure; that's what I mean.

Why don't the players run and spread when we have the ball?
Why don't the players have a desperate dip into a contest?
Why, why why...? lots of why...and no good reason for them other than complacency (from a player perspective).

Yeah sure Ratts is not getting into the heads of the players, but at the end of the day the players have to play like men possessed, with spirit, like the Tigers have in the last month, whilst we've......capitulated.

Lost the players? I'd rather hear what Synbad has to say on this rather than the Ratten supporters atm.

Fear is what the players will respond to.
Drop a few...it's a must. Just as is a win this weekend.
I'd love to come to Melbourne right this minute and give them something to fear.

How the @#$%&! are we going to win with the current attitude?
Whilst I'm not all for it, but atm I wouldn't argue against Ellard and Fisher having a go.
Why Fisher when I have been his biggest critic since round 22 2009?
Because there's no one else who can possibly play as a marking forward in the 2's.

I'd rather not play Fisher but I would like to see him play 2 games to reach the 100 milestone...name on locker.
He's also presenting, taking marks (as we know he can) and kicking goals in the Ants.
Sure he'll be exposed defensively in the chase, but we need to make some changes and stop the complacency.
At least we may get a couple of goals per game from the Fish in his 2 cameos to finish off his career.

It really looks like we need a new coach to change the attitude of the players.
The players are (imo) obviously not listening to the coach or the coaches plan doesn't work.

$7 million worth of cattle per year and we can't get them motivated for a win?
Well @#$%&! me swinging. I want my money's worth.
My $$$$$ pay for these complacent flowers. I want my pound of flesh!!!!

So everyone should play like Thornton? We may not score.

They shouldn't play like Jamison either. He second guessed his first option repeatedly. If you have less than two seconds to pick something out and you see something you can use, you use it. Thinking twice is not how the better decision makers get it done in close; they get it done by seeing what they need to first time, then executing immediately.

His 1-on-1 work was fine, but he really let the team down in every other aspect. He's the reason why Armfield has a dint in his face; Thornton was just trying to clean up his mess.

Russell, Bower & Walker are the shining example of half-back play. Armfield, for all his positives, lacked vision with the ball in hand and cost us precious seconds in several forward thrusts. Joseph and Carrazzo fall into that category also.

As usual...on the money jimmae.

WTF has happened to Jamison.
Is Juddemnt Day and his mates convinced yet that Jammo is not in form?
Jesus...pull your finger out Jammo. Jammo is not on his own either.

Can't see us promoting Casboult from Bullants 2's.

I've been against playing Fisher but I'm now convinced he will provide more (anything) than O'Helpme. A mark, a contest, a couple of goals, anything's a bonus.

Time to reward Ellard's form. Reckon he'll at least get his hands dirty.
Lucas is clearly in our best 22.

Thornton is a waste of time. We are far too negative with him, Carazzo, Joseph and Jamison all totally defensive players. Not for the modern day game thanks.

That's very funny

If I see Gibbs play one more negative stopping role I'll be in need of a new TV.

He needs to be put in the middle of the ground and told to win us the F@#$en game.

I'm sick of one of our star players matching up on some clown that plenty of other players could be doing.

Lets go out and win the game ourselves and stop trying to prevent the other team from winning it!

CJ will be back this week and add some mongrel to the team.....hopefully. Houlihan out.

Waite should come in for Carlos.

Warnock for Hammer.

Lucas to come in for Carrots.
