Was he close to BOG against collingwood??

See it's one of those catch 22 things, he can just say he wasn't fit which is a bullshit excuse.

I think this was what Melbourne told us just before securing a #11 pick for him.

Houla has been close to BOG in every game that was pressure free...

Was Mclean injury free in that game?

I am not sure if he is or ever has been injury free, but he sure isn't excuse free.

Needs explaining...

Houla has played as a defensive forward this year.
His job is to apply pressure and close down the attacking HB.

He has been BOG once and close to BOG several times after he shut down his opponent and kicked a couple.
Which game was pressure free?

What's your point?

Not really. We rated Brock above all of them, which is why we traded pick 11 for him.

Ahhh but the question is, with the benefit of hindsight, did we overrate him?

Given that we rated him ahead of Lucas, it appears so :donk:

..when he can play fit, he's worth it.. ..just a matter of gettin' him fit enough to play.. ..he adds more than just in and under.. ..he adds true grit, Judd wouldn't get pushed around so much with him around.. ..he's also a proven big game player, won the dee's that final back in 06.. ..if we can get him right, we'll need him for finals..

..true, but he has proven himself to be a big game player.... ..so, he'll add that dimension to our team thats very light on finals experience.... ..if we can get him fit enough to play in the finals..

Brock's Brownlow medal count.

2005 - 9 votes
2006 - 9 votes
2007 - 3 votes
2008 - 5 votes
2009 - 1 vote

He's had three BOG's five & four years ago.

So he has played below average for four years......and we give Melbourne pick 11 cos we are Carlton and @#$%&! the rest.

We showed those Dees!

Sounds like this deal is really getting to you Blue4. Try think about deals that have worked in our favour like the fev one or all the deals other clubs have done that havent come off.

Plenty of time left for this deal to even out. McLean could turn out to be our Tarrant and Gysberts could turn out to be a Goldsack type player who bursts on the scene then struggles.

Meh - I hate this deal and need to rectify it.. I'll accept a third rounder and move on.

I am not concerned about Gysberts but the fact remains if a first year players plays a string of impressive games then he is a keeper.

He will do well for Melbourne.

They seem to offload their duds at pricey terms.

You can accept Lions paying top dollar for Travis Johnston because they reckon they're playing super coach each year...but we are not too far behind.

Warnock now Mclean -- we will never learn. Just when I thought we turned the corner it gets worse.

It's a farcical situation that needs to stop.

..just to clarify a little.. ..in '05 and '06 he was still a kid ['03 draft], a kid playing in a finals side from memory.. ..i think Neitz might have even won the coleman one of those seasons, plus other good dee's like green and yze would have been getting more ump focus.. ..in an '06 final [remember he's 24 in 2010] he won it for the dee's off his own boot.. ..i think it was in '07 that he got the big injury?, and really they've had their own 'dark days' on crappy foozball from '07 to '09.. ..not much chance for votes when playing as crap as they were.. ..especially during '09 season when the Tank was in full swing and he was repeatedly played out of position.. ..the Brock is not a FP..

..question marks on his durability, and ability to stay consistently fit.. ..i don't think he's too slow cos when proper fit he's good enough.. ..his greatest asset though is his elite endurance.. ..the rapid increase in rotations since his good years is the real problem i think.. ..in a way, he's the sort of guy that needs to be rotated less, benching him won't be as good for him, as letting him settle and get into a groove on-field.. ..the thing is, he's never been pacy.. ..it's not like he's lost a heap of speed or anything.. ..and in his early years he looked better than cooney and looked to be on the cusp of becoming a superstar.. ..same year ratts was there i think.. ..injuries, and playing in a crap, then tanking team have really skewed opinions of what he's capable of i think.. ..i do believe that when fit he's in our best 18, starting right in the middle i reckon too..

We took the Bears to the cleaners too with the fev deal. Warnock i am sure we can even out if we liked by trading one of our rucks so no problem there. In fact getting him may just have sparked the improvement in Jacobs and increased his value.

So really its just the Brock for pick 11 issue that is freaking you out. Still too early to call but early signs dont look good due to his body not being right. Club took a risk to try free up Judd as hads struggled to play consistently . If it doesnt come off i will forgive them.

He was in top nick pre season - if he cant get his body right now he'll never will.

Simple.

Nothing against Brock -- but trade him out and move on...

..yeah, and he was ok/good in first game for new club [H&A season], and looked good/v.good in second match.. ..got injured on the hip early in his third game and has been struggling since with fresh injuries.. ..crappy way to begin the first season sure.. ..but the early signs were positive.. ..we've got great facilities now, deserves the chance to get fit.. ..way too early to think of 'cutting our losses'..

Yawn ... we seem to give lots of latitude to another not so impressive player who is fully fit. From my recollection Brock did ok at the start of the year. Quite encouraging.

26 Disposals against Richmond
27 Disposals against Brisbane

He has had injury problems ever since. Talk about over-reaction.

Give the bloke a chance.

Noticed pick 11 - Jordan Gysberts omitted for the clash with the Crows
