Anyway, Henderson and McLean out, Waite and T-Bird in for me.
A tall and a small out and two talls in? Why?
Waite I don't classify as a tall so much due his mobility and athleticism. Sure we lose McLean's hardness around the contest and protection of Juddy, but Robbo isn't going to give us that so instead go with the X factor, play him off a wing and let the boy take the game on. I'd even give him a run on the ball at times.
T-Bird is the replacement for Henderson if he is dropped.
My issue is what is Thornton going to add to the side? We have Bower and Jamo as our key defenders. Most defences are going to more mobile running backlines. Jamo isnt really and attacking defender and does a job. Bower adds a bit more run.
Also, St Kilda really only have Kosi as a tall fwd. Bower is the perfect match up for him. Jamo can take anyone and then we have our runners. Most sides play one or two max and you simply cant play more than two key defenders.
I have watched Thornton closely at Bullants level and I am not sure what he has to add to our side especially in regards to improving our side.
I agree generally about Waite as a wingman but since he is coming back from a knee his agility is nowhere near where it was. His future probably is key position and given our line up it is up fwd. He and Setanta with the three brothers and Houlihan could cause havoc. Once again two mobile key targets which is also needed.
Football over the past twelve months with so many rotations is about speed as that is how you beat the zones. St Kilda are the best at setting up the defensive zone. IMO for us to beat it we need to be mobile and as with the sides we picked to play Geelong and Adelaide the more runners the better, especially since we are already missing Walker.
