Pros:

1. Kruezer is in fantastic form, he runs hard, jumps high, the best I have ever seen him.
2. Eddie Betts being our "go to" man. Many opposition will have a hard time stopping him.
3. Yarran - starting to pick up the speed of AFL
4. Scotland as a midfielder instead of doing rebound as a back-flank.
5. Gibbs and Murphy, I thought they were quite slow and have gone backwards during the pre-seaon games, now I know why - because they were simply holding back, didn't want to show all the cards during the pre-season.
6. Waite - doesn't even look like he had a knee reconstruction.
7. No Judd and Fevola - still manage to have a great win like this

Cons

1. Jamison's shoulder
2. Henderon and Setanta - they were good, but still a long way to go, hopefully they play ever game for the rest of the season.
3. Anderson

I focus on those with Qn marks on them, so not the Gibbs, Murphys etc

+ves
Waite - great first up game
Brock the Rock - wasn't exposed, did the hard stuff, and his handball was clever and set up runners
Setanta - 3 gls and looks a player
Yazz - 3 gls, is class
JR & Bower - these two have really stepped up and are providing great re-bound from defense
206 - did pretty well
Betts - is arguably in our top 5 right now
Scotland - didn't have a great 2009 but was good last night

-ves
Anderson - just doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me
Walker - sure as hell aint firing right now (he still looks unsure when he has the ball). Thought he was poor in the Crows game too

Other points
Jamison - I hope Ratts was right when he said post-game Jamo's shoulder is fine
Hendo - marks on leads tells me he will be a player but it will take some time
Robbo - tad quiet given his very good pre-season but 9 tackles shows he still does the hard things even when he isn't dominating with possessions/goals

Overall
Very pleasing result that will give the team confidence, but the true tests are yet to come

Jamo carried T Bird on his shoulder last night - pretty sure he is fine.

positives:

Quick ball movement forward at times was first rate.
(I know the opposition pressure wasn't great, but) I thought our skill level was overall very, very good.
Kicking for goal. In most of our preseason games, we've kicked poorly for goal. In the first half we couldn't miss. It makes a huge difference.

Sorry should have also mentioned I don't think we could have asked for a better game as stand-in skip than what Carrots delivered last night. Well done Andrew.

Pros:
* the selflessness of our forward line. Huge change. Betts, Yarran, Setanta ... all looking to give off when they could have a shot. Hendo running some terrific blocks to free team mates. O'Halpin not trying to mark but just bring the ball down to advantage.

* running in waves off half back. Did this very well ... a player in trouble seemed to have a player running in support who'd have another player running in support. Led to some very fluid passages of play

* switching was used to good effect including the double switch. Tiges were left out of position leaving a clearer route to a goal.

Cons:
* can't take too much out of playing the Tiges in the state they're in, no real measuring stick as it turned out. Look forward to seeing how the team functions against some real competition in coming weeks.

Pros: I found a live feed of the game.

Cons: didn't find it until early 2nd quarter and it was only in 4:3

Not a great game, but a win is a win, and we had a good spread of goal kickers.

Really pleased for Carrots, and good to see Waite play well.

Even though the opposition was substandard I thought it was a great result overall and a confidence booster for the club and supporters alike.

Pros
- Brock had an excellent debut for the navy blues but when we face stronger opposition Ratts must be mindful of his opponents effectiveness.

- Murphy and Waite showed no signs of being underdone. As I've said before well done to them and to the rehab staff.

- Eddie and Yazz really strengthen our forward options and will create headaches for the oppositon when feeding off the excellent workrate and intensity of Setanta and Henderson.

- AJ continued on his good work from last year.

- We have a ruck duo who will improve to be near unbeatable in a couple of years time and be around for another 10 years.

Cons
- Handing momentum to the opposition on a platter by that rediculous slow play in defence. Non-sensical when we have the momentum and ability to slam on numerous goals.

- Jamo's shoulder still looks to be a worry. I'm happy to have White in reserve just in case.

- Some inexplicably poor disposal when under no pressure.

Pros
- Forward spread - great work. Really, really impressed with how they created space and stayed out of each other's way. Top notch stuff. you could see them back track at times to keep the forward 30 free (Betts to Carlos was erotic!)
- Rucks. Sure Warnock was rusty but good competing, good work around the ground. Hammer has got a hard gig ahead of him and Jacobs even more so.
- Walker getting the ball
- Good clearance / hassle work. Richmond are very young and weak so not reading too much into this.
- Spread of options in midfield.
- McLean. In close was really good but also in space he is a good kick. Hadley has got a hard gig ahead of him.
- Gibblet. Great game. Delidio average and Gibblet gets the goals.
- More fitness into Waite, Warnock, Murphy
- Brendan o'hAilpin / Brendan Henderson (answering brendan who?) worked really hard.

Cons
- Concentration. Two 5 minute failures conceded 6 goals (2/3 for the night). This could / should have been a 90-100 point win.
- Walker disposing of the ball.
- Henderson, not as a con, but sometimes he did little 5 metre half-hearted leads. He needs to pursue deep leads to provide options. he'll get there
- Stat keeping - No way Russell was 95% effective. His second half featured at least 6 missed kicks. He was chastising himself for dud kicks. This is a fact. I was really happy with his positioning and for Round 1 I dont mind some odd kicks but he was fluffing them (Question - without Stevo who else do we go to?)

First chance to get on line after bewing at the game last night.

Pros
Met up with Jars, Blue Sombrero and Blue Beatle
We won!
Saw a multi pronged forward line with will only get better
Eddie Betts - excitement machine
Chris Yarran - oozes class
206 - will get better and better, great get.
The Big Kruez!
Jamo, Russell
Waite and Murph getting through.
Singing the song at the end!
Waering my Carlton shirt today is Launceston and people copmmenting on a great win!

Cons
Some jittery moments but the opposition was poor so will be a a bigger test next week.

Whats even scarier is members of the so called recruiting department making assertions or judgements after only one game!! :yikes:

Good post Molsey.

Can people please take effective disposal % stats with a grain of salt? A kick that falls short but is collected by a teammate is "effective", even if it puts us under pressure and leads to a turnover.

CM pls take note! :smoking:

How many smothers did we have last night? Would be close to a club record IMO.

Pros
Forwardline. Worked very hard and lots of pressure. Did a number of the little things which was very encouraging.

Cons
Richmond very ordinary. Putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure down back with careless disposal.
