My pros have all been mentioned.
One con that hasn't;
With our skill level, we'll get hammered by a team like St Kilda that actually applies pressure. There was a sequence in the first quarter where we won a free kick from a stopapge about 75 metres out from goal. And without one Richmond player touching the ball we managed to run it out of bounds 50 metres out from Richmond's goal on the opposite side of the field.
That's just diabolical. We do not have the backmen with the required foot skills to carry that sort of stuff off. Regardless - how you end up up in that sort of situation from 75 metres out is just crazy stuff.
It was just a small thing, but when i saw that I was thinking - thank god this is richmond because we'd get smashed to pieces by a real team if that's what we're about.
You could see what they were trying to do there. Draw out their zone to spread their defense and create some space but 3 passes missed their targets. Practice makes perfect.
Some of short dinky passes were a Con last night. Bower was our main offender. He will have to work on that as i am sure he knows. Gun player otherwise. OUr skills started well last night and as players tired (for both teams) they got pretty bad.
I reckon we kick the yellow ball better than the red.
Yarran was a great Pro for me. He wouldnt break the rice paper. In 3 years time he will be unstoppable. If we can get the ball in his hands 20 -25 times a game we will be half way there.
Walker did lots of hard running that created space for others. His running is his strength so its good to see him using it. His kicking was off a bit last night. Sometimes he is running at full pass and trying to execute when he has more time to slow up and steady. Awareness could be his issue. More talk from others could help?
Scrappy game in the end but we did what we had to do. Hopefully we can build and rack up a few wins this first half of the season.
