remember leaving waverley after that opening game in 84 thinking we had the flag in the bag! :lol:

another debutante was fraser murphy who also starred.

on the long drive back to brunswick, the excited chatter in the car was something along the lines of "how did geelong give fraser murphy away?"

... then we heard on the radio that best on ground for geelong was greg williams ... DOH!!

IIRC, north beat us in the opening game of '71 at arden st, which was a major shock as they were wooden spooners the year before.

what was notable about that day was the debut of geoff southby and possibly bruce doull. if it wasn't doull's debut, it was certainly the start of his permanent spot in the seniors.

FYI, Bruce first played in '69

Poor Ralphy, I was in Perth in 1983 & saw him at a Claremont game. He kicked 15 to 3/4 time & spent the last quarter at full back :shock: .

I was in a dream, thinking "he's coming to play for us next year!!!".
