OK.....So we keep hearing about a few guys that are considerd a bit soft, by some in here.....

So who are our 'tough nuts' going to be this year..

Even in this age of video umpires , and 5 umps. on the ground you still need a few players that can stand up and be counted when the heat is on.....especially against the top few sides who play a very physically agressive game.

Wiggins as far as putting his body on the line goes. Count Prender in here too.

Thornton and Teague seemed to have a more aggressive demeanour during the pre-season...

Teague, Wiggins, Thornton and Matty Lappin's a fairly tough nut for someone of his height and build.
I think eventually Waite will become a tough nut.

Walker1....your spot on that those guys are courageous...but do we have players that have that hard, aggressive edge to their game that keeps opposition players looking over their sholders

Tough nuts have nothing to do with being reported/suspended so it doesn't matter how many ump's are on the ground.

Tough is putting yourself in a situation where you put yourself at risk of leaving the ground on a stretcher or winding up at the tribunal as a witness.

Hence, a guy like Teague is tough and Byron Pickett is not tough

vinny waite will be, but its a danger, aggression has to be a natural thing, for vinnie it is, for someone like Kouta it isnt, not calling Kouta a softie, he goes at it and doesnt pull out, but he certainly doesnt through his body around.

I think the big Vin can be that though.

reckon we may be able to put setanta down as a tough nut as well.

Noone can compete with Teague he is a complete psycho. I look forward to him ending up like Hicky where he ends every game with a tooth missing and about 100m of Elastoplast wrapped all over his body.

Gotta love Hollywood Teague. Tough as old boots and as reliable as night turning into day.

Agree completely with that TruBlueBrad...and I'm not talking about wacking anyone behind the play...All I'm saying is to compete against the top sides you need to have 'some' physicaly agressive players as well as the outside recievers....Bret Ratton was a great example...Greg Williams another, players that were very hard at the ball and wouldn't back off no matter what...

I think we have a lot of players that are either in this catorgary already or are emerging and thats the type of footy that will win Premierships...eg..Brisbane....Port . and I thought this thread might highlight a few of these people..

Suprised none of you have mentioned Cory McGrath.
That bloke is tough as nails.
He hits hard and chases hard.
Some of his tackles are bone crunchers.

Cory for mine.

Good get pj. I wouldn't expect Heath Scotland to shirk an issue either.

Toughest in terms of taking it - Teague

Toughest in Terms of giving it - Fevola

Some of Brendans fair bumps have already sent a few players out for the count.

I think that he is on his way to becoming as intimidating a forward as a Lockett or a Jonathan Brown. Opposition players don't enjoy filling the hole in front of Fevs

Pound for pound I reckon our toughest nut is Glen Bouwyer.

Agree with Elwood, we don't really have anyone who causes opposition players to be careful of where they're going.

Having said that, I think a team psychology where no-one is unwilling to give out a good hard bump might be more beneficial. Because if everyone on the team is feared or slightly intimidating, then the whole team aura is added to.

No point having one sniper. Other than Pickett, who gives a stuff about Port, they're not tough. Brisbane are big all over the ground, Brown is the biggest but Michael, Black, Voss, Leppitsch, Johnson, the Scott boys etc., they're not small players - Brisbane are physically intimidating overall.

We need to develop a team hardness, not just have one hard nut. Ideally we'd have one on every line (unfortunately I had to borrow from Sheedy here...).

Brendan is the hardest player in our team in that, he will hurt you.
Teague the hardest ie bravest. Solomon named him as one of the comps toughest players last night on TFS.
