The arguments against Lyon are all weak. Hearsay and gossip.

3 grand finals.
0 wins.

Good H&A results.
Failed finals results.

I don't think that's a weak argument against Lyon.

People talk up Teague as the 2nd best at Carlton this century (lol). Anyway, since when did 2nd best become such a drawcard?!

None of this says anything in support of Voss, I understand that, but this constant talk of Lyon being a successful coach doesn't add up… unless you value losing grand finals and being 2nd best.

In all fairness, I watched 2 of his gf losses over the weekend and he came within a bees dick of winning them. Cruel game.

That may be true, but so is this…

0 premierships ≠ successful coach

No coach is a certainty. There are some attractive points about Lyon, I agree, with respect to perhaps bringing players into line and improving our defensive structures etc. But ultimately his greatest achievement is "coulda, woulda, shoulda", " bee's dick away", or "an unlucky bounce".

He's been a very good H&A coach and given his teams 2 chances (or 3 depending on how you look at it) at the ultimate success and has failed them all.

Of course, he might win if gets a 4th chance. None of us know that. I'd just rather back someone else in, who maybe has a future ahead of them, rather than a past record of 2nd best.

He also left both clubs in controversial circumstances (focus more on the St K departure here). Not sure trust is a key attribute a President and CEO can have with Lyon.

Ok so if its true that we havent yet appointed a coach and are hiring assistants. This makes me uneasy.

I think the coach should choose his own assistants, and together they need to trust eachother and get along for them as a group to be successful.

Am I reading this wrong?

This is reminicent of when we appointed Teague, he inherited the assistants he had.

It's actually 4 GFs.
1 tie.
1 loss by a freak toepoke
Freo v Hawks was there for the taking, but they blew ther chances. I saw it live.
Won the minor premiership

Freo and Saints have been a disaster over 30 years otherwise.

Things fell away at Freo the last few years. But his record is fantastic.

If it's a parameter that we're only into premiership coaches then obviously he's unsuccessful

If we're taking multiple factors into account though...St K 2009 & Freo 2013 kicked terribly in the first half.

I still rate Lyon

Get him & a decent kicking coach

Saints also should have won in 2009 but poor accuracy cost them.
I hope we go with Lyon.

Surely unlikely now that Lyon moves back in -obviously jungle drums beating Voss and other ITK posters on BF saying Kingsley has been told he is out of running - who knows whether that is the case though
No one knows really but at least we are going through a process and the process has been thorough

PS Move on from Clarko but still like the fact that COOK called him on the weekend as a last ditch effort

I’m not opposed to Lyon or Voss but am concerned that we may be losing a good opportunity with Kingsley

Having said that if the panel makes the decision with Cook in respect to any of the candidates I’m supportive of it.

Frank I think we've got to the point now where we have to embrace the candidate that the review panel has chosen (or will choose). We can only wish him and his assistants the best and move forward. The team also have to embrace him and vice-versa.

I've actually warmed more to Voss the last 24 hours

He has been made to earn it (if he gets it). That will hold him in good stead, I assure you...won't take anything for granted and will do whatever it takes to be successful

Also, I've reflected on the fact that Diesel, Parko, Sayers and to a lesser extent, Cook are not people who suffer fools...the first 3 have Carlton's best interests at heart with no other agendas.

I trust their decision making...maybe right now, their thinking is about standards, culture, mindset and non-negaotiables required for success...if Voss isn't as strong tactically (cf. Kingsley), that can be overcome with quality assistants with more tactical nous

Anyway, my thoughts

I wonder if we have a final crack at C Scott. He should relish the new challenge and might have hit his ceiling at Geelong

Yeah, I think something would have to go horribly wrong b/w Voss and Cook (assuming reports of their meeting are true) for us to now go to C Scott. I would imagine any conversation b/w Scott and Cook would have happened last week or on the weekend at the latest.
I think I heard Whiteley say on air that he confirmed with Voss that he is down to the final two but does not know if he’s the one at this stage.
And Caro’s intel was that we had spoken to up to a dozen candidates.
If true, it would challenge credibility to only now be looking for new options.

Panel's recommendation was Voss, now passed on to Cook for the final verdict to take to The Board. According to 7 News Cook is talking to both Voss and Kingsley in the next couple of days.
