2001 was a very, very long time ago. Most of you would be aware that we haven't played finals since 2001 - a record breaking absence for the Carlton Football Club. Reflecting on what I was doing back in 2001, the following has changed:

* Got engaged
* Got married
* Moved back to Melbourne
* Changed jobs
* Changed employer
* Bought a house
* Had a pre-kid holiday
* Had a kid
* Had a second kid
* Changed jobs again
* Moved to Perth and then back again to Melbourne

It's been a long time, but I can still remember Knights doing Kouta's knee. In summary form what has happened to each of you?

A great question to start a new thread, Mols! Ah, let me see:

[*] Cleared some "deadwood" and met my beautiful life partner;
[*]Had a boy who now says "Carlton" with such earnest wonder....."sigh"
[*]Bought two houses;
[*]Mm, had about three cars;
[*]Changed jobs about six times;
[*]Whilst CFC was crap, life wasn't that bad, for the majority of the 8 years........

However, as I was working with some participants on a fishing trip in Warrandyte today, the trees were resplendent in their bloom (the blossom, the wattle) and I thought to myself- "Yes, it's nice being back again, with the sun on my back, watching the Baggers have a piece of the action in September....." :thumbsup: :smile:

Got a job with a magazine company.
Bought plenty of new equipment for the great new job.
Bought a new car
Got "retrenched"
Hit some hard times
Got depressed
Redoubled efforts to build up my freelance business. Paying really nice dividends now.
Long term relationship ground to a halt
Enjoyed single life for a little while
Found someone new
Fell in love
Moved house
Got married
Preparing to be a dad

So much more than just those little points on a list can say, but that's the main gist.

All that time, though, the main constants in my life have been my friends, my family, and my club, the Mighty Blues.

In about May 2001, I moved to the UK. A few days before I left the country, I went to Optus Oval and saw us thrash a hapless Brisbane side by about 15 goals....

I remember thinking "damn, I'm probably going to miss seeing us winning a flag" and "bloody Brisbane are a rabble and going nowhere".... :oops:

I returned to Oz in about February 2005, and the first match I saw was the Wizard Cup final vs WCE... :cool:

I thought I'd skilfully missed the dark times and nothing but Blue skies laid ahead....how wrong I was. :mad:

I've seen every game from 2005-2009, and that has been bad enough - but I really feel for those of you who have sat through every game since 2002!! :clap:

Anyway, since 2001 I have:
* lived/worked in London;
* lived/worked in Edinburgh;
* travelled through Europe and U.S.;
* moved back to Australia;
* broken hearts and had my heart broken;
* become an Uncle (x2);
* been to around 100 Carlton games and around 100 Bullants games;
* joined TC :wink:

We haven't officially qualified for this year's finals yet and, as certain posters around here are (too?) quick to point out, we still have a long way to go before we are the 'real deal'...but it's nice to feel some positivity about the club again.... :smile:

attended about 22 Carlton games

and now will finally see Carlton there again :thumbsup:

fell in love again
moved to the UK to work for a year
fell out of love
moved back to Melbourne
fell in love again
bought a new car
got a new job
bought a house

3 weeks off getting married

However, my memories of Carlton from the late 90s and early 2000s are quite vague. The best thing I remember was the 1995 grand final...and after that the 1999 Grand final....then blanks...then came 2008 and I was excited again.

Had a car crash.

Met verbs, House and Molly.

They would be the highlights.

Was holidaying with girlfriend (now wife) in Europe during September 2001...with family in New York at the time - more important things than footy were occupying my mind at the time. Since then...

* Went back to Uni and finally got degree after first starting it in 1992.
* Have been in 6 different jobs.
* Decided a career as a professional ski bum was a good option for most of 2004.
* Decided that a ski bum didn't quite pay the salary i was looking for.
* Got engaged to girl of my dreams (no, not Christie Brinkley - the other one) after first meeting in 1991.
* Married girl of my dreams and had wedding of her dreams.
* Still paying off wedding of her dreams.
* Had a baby...a better experience than any Grand Final I've witnessed.
* Currently looking for 7th different job!
