Whitnall took an awesome contested mark in the square against 4 bombers - i seem to also recall a few in the wiz cup.

Not bad for a guy who cant take a pack mark

even if those marks did cost 200,000 each get over it move on.

Whitnall has not been our worst this year

You mean the one where he had 4 bites of the cherry???
Tremendous strong mark!!!No way was that ever going to be spoiled away .
Were leading the league for contested marks currently. so i can see why we wouldnt be after another CHF who can take contested marks.
The contested marks situation is under control at Carlton. We bomb it to CHF or FF and LANCE!!!!!standing on heads...flying like a bird all 6ft 5 of him.
Awesome sight.

Did you see the one Tarrant got in the goal square? Stood on a head and took it cleanly.

Yeah i am moving on re Whitnall.. (For now).. thats why i didnt bring him up till BM did.

Whitnall is just not a pack marking type player. It's a shame considering his form has been good so far this season and I'd really like the guy to stay with us and succeed. But obviously we need guys that can play to the gameplan and unfortunately you have to give something up to get something in return so Lance might have to be used as bait.

I'd dearly love him to stay and be the third forward alongside Fev and the pack marking player but it probably just can't happen that way.

Synbad, who would you have at centre half forward then?

Jarrad Waite ...- or is he not bulky enough yet?

Also Synbad you mentioned that Campo is on upwards of $600,000 a year - so he didn't take a pay cut.. but Kouta did...

Is that what happened?

and if so, why couldn't they have forced him to take a pay cut seeing as the club was almost broke?

Perhaps he said he'd go somewhere else.
Back to SA maybe.

Pure speculation of course.

FWIW Robert Walls commented on FoxFooty's On the couch yesterday that he can see Waite jnr holding down CHB for us in the future.

Camelboy, that makes sense... but what about centre half-forward.

Carlton have since the 1960's had great centre half-forwards... who should fill the possy now if Whitnall's form keeps deteriorating?

Plan B?

For the time being, Lance is our only genuine CHF.
Others are just lynch pins.

We really need to go tall in this next draft.

Shame Hartlett is out till Rnd 10 as he's been described as a Matthew Richardson type. Unlike Lance, Richardson can take a contested mark and I can't recall Lance ever taking a hanger as he can't get off the ground!

Brilliant player yet at times he costs the side because they won't kick long when they know Lance can't contest in the air. Denis's gameplan doesn't suit him as he typically marks one out after reading the play quicker than his opponent. You don't many goals crumbed by your half-forwards when your CHF doesn't contest.

Campo a tough couple of weeks on the road and his old pal Broadie.
Only one result possible.
BTW what were the Carazzo and McGrath incidents?

Walls clearly hasn't noticed how loose Jarrad can be.

Any comments from anyone about Camporeale playing over a half of football with a fractured cheekbone?

That's a pretty fair effort. Shame he went and ruined it by acting like a flower.

I think the half he played highlighted how theres no difference to him with or without a cracked cheekbone. .. he doesnt do much when the side needs him.

I doubt Denis would just wrap him up in cotton wool.... just cos he has a headache. ($600k rubbed out and will miss 2/4 more games???) Yeah right!!!.......

anyway on Hartlett , i think he needs to learn how to use his body.
He has a huge weapon and that weapon is he can easily roost the ball over the oppostion players hanging back a kick behind the ball.
I know the club have drafted him more as a defender but to me he looks like a forward.
He reckons he was always used as a forward till last year.

What Jarrad might need right now in his career is abit of RESPONSIBILITY. I wouldnt worry about him being loose . He needs to be given a job and made accountable. Probably the best thing for his development.
He has the size, strength and pace and maybe with some accountability and some responsibilty J might just take the next step up.

Id play him in defence for now.. its not like he is murdering them in the forward line. It looks abit crowded up there anyway.
