Hopefully Carlton has also been sniffing around Essendon*'s major sponsor, 3.

IIRC their contract finishes this year with an option.

Now that Essendon* has the stench of death a sponsor like 3 might be interested in the Blues and the Visy perks.

VODAFONE Australia is on the verge of dumping its naming rights sponsorship of St Kilda, further increasing the pressure on embattled Saints president Rod Butterss.

Carlton is looming as the frontrunner to win the Vodafone sponsorship, after billionaire president Richard Pratt made the company a "hard-to-refuse offer". Carlton will offer Vodafone complete access to players, behind-the scenes content from the football club, and Vodafone will be allowed to make a pitch for Visy Industries' entire mobile phone business.

"You are absolutely on the money in regard to the Carlton offer," said a source at Vodafone. "But no deal has been signed yet."

Then I won't need to feel bad about having my mobile with Vodafone. :-D

Maybe we can have Optus on the front and Vodafone on the back of the jumpers while we play at Telstra Dome running through our Mobile 3 banner.

That offer to change all Visy employee's mobiles to Vodafone is worth heaps to Vodafone. Pratt then should be charging Vodafone an extra 2 mill a year for the Carlton gig... Clever Dick.

IIRC the Optus deal managed to get extended by a year and not for the full sponsorship amount i.e. they stuck with us but didn't pay the full sponsorship dollars.

If the Voda deal comes off, I don't think we would be weeing down Optus' back but rather securing a long term sponsor albeit a major competitor given that Optus weren't planning to hang around.

Unless I heard incorrectly on Newsradio while I was showering, it's now a done deal!

Vodafone is a strong successful international brand, associated with marquee sporting teams across the globe. Exactly the kind of partner we require. The relationship if utilised properly would not only lift our brand image by sheer association, but also provide access to quality marketing ideas and can facilitate benchmarking global marquee clubs in the area of sports science, player development etc.

The processes inherent as part of the new sponsorship deal will be of benefit to all stakeholders, moving forward.

We have to start associating with strong successful brands, not laggards with a fetish for animals and carnie folk.
