Who do you think are our modern rivals? We have our traditional rivals in Essendon*, Collingwood, Richmond and to an extent Hawthorn, but those aside, who do you think?

FWIW- Brisbane Lions, the last few times we've played them it's always been close, ending up with one team gutted by the end. With the Fevola business, this can only heat up.

Port Adelaide- With the arrogance of Warren, tied in with the Chadster mouthing off one too many times, and their putrid supporters, beating Port Adelaide has raised another level of importance in the last few years.

Opinions?

I really only think the old rivalries are there, although it seems the youngsters of today need to be told to hate Richmond as much as they hate Essendon* and Collingwood. Again, it's club history and it's important to know about 1969, 1973 etc. The other one is when we play West Coast in Perth due to the Judd factor, but it's always seemed a healthy rivalry anyway.

Great thread mate and I agree with you re our modern day rival being Brisbane, although Essenscum will always be the ultimate enemy in my eyes, tradition or no tradition.

Despite the fact that have donated money to some of these clubs in times of need, it doesn't diminish my hate for:

Essendon*
Collingwood
Richmond

no order needed. they're my rivals.

next after those douche bags:

Port Adelaide

Then there's hoodoo rivalries:

St Kilda
Hawthorn
Crows

And finally revenge:

Brisbane Lions

And I hate losing to interstate to:

Fremantle
WCE
Sydney

Have I missed any others? If so, they don't even count!

The feeling is certainly there with West Coast. Particularly after our match against them in 2006...I want to bury them each and every time we play them.

I reckon we need to hate the filth more. And more. And more.

As a kid I used to hate Essendon* and Collingwood. But how can you hate Essendon* these days, they have been a good retirement home for servicable carlton players (kind of like St Kilda was in the 80's) and Collingwood well apart from a little glitch last year we have had the better of them.

It is the opposition supporters that really help build a rivalry... And Richmond supporters are the worst. The fact that they usually flock to games against us just makes it even bigger. Of the interstate teams, both the SA teams and Freo supporters have no idea and to me make for the perfect rivalry.

Still Collingwood.

little bit of daylight

Then Essendon*

Then a whole lot of daylight to Richmond.

The rest... who cares.

The Port Adelaide 'rivalry' will ease now that Fevola is at Brisbane, much of it was fuelled by him and Cornes bagging each other out.

They're insignificant till they start beating us consistently.

Hey, if they happen to have Lloyd on their coaching panel, Tredrea as their coach and Reiwoldt as their captain cry baby, then my view on them will be definetely be more negative than I am towards the other misfits.

I can see myself attending quite a few GC and GWS games...naturally the Carlton games...because I do visit the GC regularly for business and I live in Sydney and want to watch something more exciting than the Roosy style of play.
