Sorry if I've missed it but has this years leadership group been announced yet?

IIRC Judd, Stevens, Carrazzo, Fevola, Simpson and Scotland were last years leaders.

If it hasn't been finalised yet I'd like to see Fevola, Scotland and Stevens replaced by Gibbs, Jamison and Kreuzer

Thoughts?

Okay Fev played up a bit at the Brownlow, but he is one of our most senior players, he has to be in the LG.

Well on games experience alone, we'd have to go with:

Judd
Scotland
Simpson
Thornton
Waite
Wiggins..

and

Houlihan, wouldn't we?

They're the only 100 gamers we have on our list right now.

Actually, I reckon the Jamo nomination could be quite astute.

Don't mind Gibbs, either, but reckon Murphy should get a look in given the hype prior to his recruiting was all about his leadership.

Not sure if Kreuzer is the right personality, but maybe that doesn't matter so much. He's the type of guy that will lead by example regardless, especially on the field. He is reliable as as an old one tonne ute.

Murphy and/or Gibbs, only if they're ready.

No more picking guys on potential, to help them with careers or we're worried they'll sook if they're not included.

We're screaming out for leadership, lets get those who will lead involved.

The guys in your leadership group should be able to Captain the team now.

IF you can't see them as a potential Captain this year they shouldnt be in it. They should also be a leader in their area of the field.

I like:

Judd
Gibbs
Waite
Thornton
Simmo
Scotland (possibly)
Murphy (possibly)

What page of the manual is that on? I left mine at work, so if you give me the page number I'll check it out tomorrow.

Page 4,947. Clause 842, section 97, sub-section 6, paragraph z. Its about a third of the way down the page. Gee I thought you were experienced at this.

without knowing the guys apart from watching them play the game on a weekend, its difficult to say. pre-requisites must surely be, the ability to influence others in a positive way, both on and off the field. Must be genuinely respected by all and sundry from boot studder to president (actually president's vote might count against). Must be geniuinely prepared to make hard decisions if need be and not be there to be everyone's mate. In essence remove the footy club mentailty from it all. Oh and a degree of intelligence wouldn't go astray either. If that means there are only 3 or 4 blokes deemed worthy of being a part of the 'leadership' group then so be it. It's then up to others to rise to the level required to be a part of the 'leadership' group if they want to be part of it....

I don't know about footy clubs, but in general leadership works better from more senior people than from the younger ones and when I look at our senior players, these 5 are the ones that stand out to me, both on the field and I can't recall any incidents off the field.

Agreed with all you suggest.

You could probably Thornton to that list (despite asking for a trade to Hawks when things were shite at the club). He seems fairly disciplined and been around a long while.

As for the other seniors like Houla and Scotland...they have a bad record, and surely couldn't be considered. I wouldn't be surprised if Scotto was selected though.

Agreed. But it should only be a guiding principle, as you say "in general". One of our greatest captains, if not the greatest, was given the gig at 23.

..true, but it's also understandable why Thornton wanted out.. ..taken off the rookie list and expected to hold up a backline as if he was prime 1st round pick, made full-back when he's undersized and young/inexperienced.. ..constantly hammered and humiliated on-field.. ..quite possibly never to be financially compensated for the horror he's put thru year after year.. ..after all he's been thru, and the way he controls the back half he should be in the leadership group i reckon..

..don't see the leader in the Gibblet..

Players should be paid what they're worth, not overpaid coz we're shit.

you mean the hesitancy and indecision when in possession leading to a stagnant attempt at rebounding??

Tbird is courageous and is good at reading the play being 3rd man up, but no way is he leadership material IMO.

AWWWWWWW T-BIRD!

I'll tell you something for nothing, he got a lot more compensation for enduring the horror than any of the members got.

But you also have to remember that we were blessed with plenty of on field leaders at the time and had the luxury of electing a captain who had time to grow into the role as opposed to the pressure of leading a group of kids in the high profile world that now is AFL.
