Now that we're into a new decade and indicatively a new era/positive direction, let's look back at the last decade (as horrid as it was). What I want to know, did you still turn up to games during that 2002-2007 period even though you knew we were no good, and had it in your mind that we probably weren't going to win?

I have to say that I still turned up to most matches. I knew in my mind that the opposition we were up against on the day probably had us beaten. Had to sit through some shockers, in fact that was most weeks, but also got to see the occasional breakthrough win...and given the fact that we never used to win much then, it made the victory all the more sweet, regardless of who it was against. You could even say that turning out to the games back then has made me appreciate the games we win these days, as I know the feeling of getting sick and tired of losing week in, week out.

How about yourselves?

Rarely missed a game from about 02/03...don't know what to make of that.

Dad and I go every week. Not interstate, obviously, but when in Melbourne we always go.

Have done so for a very long time.

Living in rural Vic and the nature of work, I only get to see about 7-8 games per year and I still cherished seeing the games during this very bleak period in our history even if I only saw 2 wins during 2003-2007 unless you count the Wizard Wok and Nab cup games.

I gotta say that during this time I was more excited to see the new talent coming on board each year and watched the players more than the game.

Now that most of the pieces of the jigsaw in place I am looking at the picture more than the individual pieces and is a much more enjoyable experience.

I did when I could. And continued to buy the memberships too.

In a perverse way, I'll look back on the period 2002-07 fondly- not for the games themselves, but because I started buying my membership yearly and met some great people along the way.

Always go to the games in Adelaide, and usually make a trek or three over for home games. Have been doing so since I could drive (ie 1991).

My local SANFL team, I've missed about 12 games in the past 10 years, and we were truly crap....

I attending every game.

The games where the Seagulls out numbered the Carlton supporters at the MCG.

The games when the other team scored 100 points before half time.

Rain, hail or shine, i was there no matter how much it hurt cause eventually i knew we would have the last laugh

(saying that im not all to positive about 2010)

I found it really hard to get motivated to go to a game when we weren't trying to win during 2005-2007 period. Was not going to go to a game and hope that we lose.

Since 2008 I have enjoyed going to the football again. At least we are competitive now. That is all that I ask for knowing that we gave 100%.

Most definitely. For me the fall from grace was a bit personal and I actually become a bigger fan (and a more expensive member) given the decline.

I remember coming back to Melbourne in 2003 and we were just a shemozzle. I remember all the noise and tension around us and the fall from grace was most clear. I remember complaining bitterly about how crap the website was and getting sucked in to help out...

Went to most games through what i call the dark years and my poor son had the misfortune of attending along with me.

When i think that at the same age approx i had the pleasure of witnessing and celebrating 3 grand final victories.... he had the luxury of seeing about 3 winning games ...(give or take)....hmmm!

Made him stay to the end of the matches too - i keep saying that it will make him appreciate the 17th even more.... or maybe i am just a cruel father.

The 60s the rise to the top

The 70s classic battles with Richmond and Hawthorn

The 80s with the mosquito fleet and the premiership quarter

The 90s is 95.

Always the battles with the filth and the scum.

And then came the last decade. Ouch.

I have seen it all. Been to it all. CFC were so bad my son and I would laugh because we would be crying if we were going to take the game seriously.

Had an AFL club support membership when we were fined and stripped of our draft picks. Told the AFL get stuffed they weren't getting any more of my money and immediately signed up to CFC.

Its all swings and roundabouts. Its just about our turn again.

Been living in Denmark since mid-98, but I still tried to listen to the games each week, via my crystal radio. It meant getting up at some pretty wierd times, but I still did it. Still renewing my membership each year too. who knows maybe one day i'll get back there to see them again.

Whenever I could - watched every game on fox or free though and people knew to not let me know the results - its pretty hard to not hear results for a day or two but its possible.
