Sorry, but I just don't buy that.

I don't think there is any doubt the club would come out and state loud and clear that Andrew was not in the wrong, if that were the case. The club would take any opportunity they could to limit the damage. They have to respond to the AFL, so if 1AW's actions weren't that bad, they would be telling the AFL this for sure.

Robinson was not given extra punishment, so obviously his sins were not that great.

But Walker got the full whack.

Put 2 and 2 together.

My 2 and 2 is that the hun weren't able to find any dirt on Robbo, therefore, he remained out of the filth rag and the club had nothing to address

I certainly will be taking DOA on his word and accepting that Andrew was merely helping out a mate in a situation that unfortunately escalated. He may have been under the influence but that is not a hangable offence in my eyes. Ryan was the idiot on that occassion. Andrew was just unlucky enough to be there.

When was the last time you were at a place like Crown in the wee hours, and got i na tiff, bec your mate was in a tiff in his jocks ?

One should simply not place themselves in a situation where something can happen

My mates don't walk around Crown at whatever Godly hour in their jocks and nothing else

[quote="diesel_85"][quote="Captain Dan"]Time to just make the whole season redundant for mine. No Judd until Round 4, players suspended for the entire NAB Cup and start of the season, Fevola gone, no Stevens, it's time to play the kids. Play the kids from the start of the year, right from round 1 to round 22. Don't worry about finals, we wouldn't win the Grand Final anyway. The year 2010 should be and for mine will be a development year, we will be 1-8 after 9 rounds lets face the facts, and hey, Essendon* have already predicted a wooden spoon for us so I think it's fair to say goodbye Carlton 2010 and start preparing for 2011. If there are any players with any niggles or anything, put them in for extensive surgery now. Our club has hit and all time low, rock bottom for mine, the HUN outlined that we were in debt and barely surviving, and we are again the subject of much controversy. We are back in the pits of 2002-2007, it is all doom and gloom from here on in, but the question is this time, who's gonna save us???

now that is going a little far isnt it?? 'WE' are a bloody proud club with a bloody good list. simmer down, pay your membership and stop banging on with this 'we are gone' mentality. not sure the club is at an "all time low", that comment suggests that you havent really much knowledge of the current situation

2010 will surprise alot of people. including yourself. Bring on rd1

yeah, well,I'd rather have a club I can be proud of than a 'bloody proud club.'

Exactly, well it was closer to 5am. So "bad boy" Essendon* player Michael Hurley is still training at the club, has received no punishment that we know of. Wonder if the AFL will issue a please explain, I doubt it.
Wouldnt be surprised if Carlton receives some sort of penalty from the AFL, we are afterall the scapegoats of the comp.
Carlton should be sending the AFL with a please explain letter;
Why did the AFL allow a player in their care on an official trip to Ireland, become so drunk and put a barman in a headlock? Why did they then just send him home and wash their hands of the situation. Why did the AFL allow a limitless amount of free alcohol to be served at another official function-the Brownlow. This resulted in players being so drunk that the result was a Coleman medalist being traded (and no further sanctions). Please explain AFL.

I think the Captain was having a lend in that post BG.

At least I hope so.

all good dan. my bad!!

and about the fev and stevo not being here anymore...... while stevens was a good disposer by foot, he severely lacked any toughness or aggression which IMO, Brock Mclean brings in spades. and for fev, i honestly believe that without him our 1 dimensional forwardline structure will go out the door. There is now a sense of unpredictability among our forwardline. who will the big backs go to? the scarlett's, merrett's, rutten's etc of this competition?? all three would struggle with a waite/kreuzer/warnock/judd rotation.

Isn;'t the AFL's chief concern that the CFC did not kep the AFL properly informed about the incidents? That is what I have read/heard

Anyone, again I reiterate, as bad as Hurley's incidcent was, it was just 1 player, whereas the Blues have form involving close to half a dozen players

I think the AFL are sick and tired of the Blues continually bringing the name of the game into disrepute

Piss weak stuff this. Seems to me that there might be a lack of leadership around the place and that certain administrators might not be as good as we thought.

That is inaccurate. The offenders were personally called prior to the PC. The rest of the playing group was emailed or texted.

As a Board Member Mark, you have taken the opportunity to correct what you regard as an erroneous statememt.
Perhaps then as a Board Member you might like to answer a simple question, one that should have been posed by the media yesterday and i am sure it is one that the AFL will ask.

Were any members of the Board, Club Executive or Match and Playing staff aware of an "unofficial boat trip" prior to the event?

If the answer is to the affirmative perhaps you as a Board Member can advise why steps were not taken to abort or at least manage the affair ?

..i feel a bit sorry for Walks, he was caught a little in the whole 'wrong place, wrong time' gig.. ..but, also.. ..i do agree you should stand by yer mates.. ..if he was really doing this, he would have made sure hoops didn't go to the foyer/lobby in his jocks and make a scene.. ..you dont join in to help a mate when he's already in trouble, you jump in earlier to make sure he doesnt get in trouble in the first place, cos if you dont you get dragged into the mess with him.. ..maybe next time, with Walks being made an example of, other players will act earlier and swiftly to diffuse trouble, before letting it erupt and them jumping in..

It baffles me....the hysteria......

Go and worry about your own life instead of obsessing over a couple of young men you don't even know and the situation of which you know even less. This is what sells papers....grown men who have nothing better to do than to relentlessly pick on a handful of young men who have the opportunity to do what you only ever dreamed of.

The media and people have to realise footballers are the same as sausages there are hundreds of different types of them from plain to chicken to chinese to tomato ,salami black pudding frankfurt and so on but in the end they are still just a sausage

Give it a rest will you.

I fork out $700 a year to this club, in the hope the players will do what is necessary to get the competitive edge to win a Premiership.

I have a right to express disappointment that the club have been entangled in several off field misdermeanours now.

I don't want to fork out $700 a year if the players are not 110% fair dinkum, and I have every right to be pi$$ed off about this.

No other club since WC have had so many off field issues in such a short period of time. where there's smoke there is usually fire. This playing list had better get into shape.

I am staggered by some of the relaxed attitudes on this site. I assume most of us are paid up members?? TheBlueMuse are you a paid up member? If you are, aren't you pi$$ed off you fork out hundreds of dollars in the hope the team will win the ultimate prize, but all you see is Fevola and his Brownlow antics, Betts, Cloke, and Garlett missing training, Betts and Robbo mucking up, Houla (in his undies) and Tex in tiffs at Crown, the players binge drinking, the players forcing a young rookie to drink above his capabilities. All in a few months.

When it comes to recent off field dramas, we have it in spades over Hurley's Essendon*

Seriously, this club needs to get its act together. And paid up members have every right to be livid.

VB I am a paid up member and apart from this epiosode however bad it has been, from all the training reports I have read the boys have been putting in on the track.

Don't draft athletes draft footballers.
Don't draft him he has issues.
Don't recruit him he's a dud.

Gee Whizz i loved football in the old days. A sport played by men like men. We were even successfulful then. Now its all about role models, choir boys.

IMO as much as i stand by the decision makers,i reckon they got it wrong. Betts was D & D big deal. He wwasn't driving hewasn't charged henever hurt anyone nobody complained about him but he waslocked up for few hours to ensure he was safe. Some Cops Bouncers and most Reporters recognise you and it's all about them bringing you down. They must be lacking some self esteem why else glory hunt.

Walks didthe right thing. I'm with DOA. If Houla or anyone of our boys was in trouble on the park on game day you fly the flag. So what message are the powers sending. Let himfight his own battle.
IMO personal values and morals overide workplace ones. So take the medicine be proud of yourself and support your mates everytime. Anyone here ever been bashed knowing that a mate did a runner to avoid getting hurt or in trouble. I'mcertain Houla has more respect for Walker now than if he did what the Club wanted and ran.

Houla well you had the right intentions getting a room. But you unfortunately got caught with your pants down. And for that act of stupidity you cop the punishment sweet. And thankyour mate who went into battle for you.

Anyway whats done is done. But the big question i have is at what point do we make Sticks accountable? A great footballer doesn't make a great coach and a great captain doesn't make a great president.

So its done an dusted. Lets move on lets talk football not make life judgements on our footballers. :donk: :donk:

So what is this heinous crime Andy Walkz has committed?

It has been instilled in him from an early age to support family and mates,I have told him I am proud of him for going to help Ryan who was set upon by bouncers.

Walkz response in going to help a mate was instinctive.
Noone was killed ,no bones were broken, and no stiches were required, just a skirmish.

No charges were laid for assault, none for drunk and disorderly.
The Liberal Party newsletter(aka the Herald Sun)would have you believe it was a "booze fuelled brawl".
Club administrators who believe fines and suspensions would prevent a player from instinctively looking after mates, are at the very least, naive, the AFL's melee rule provides a clue.

As stated earlier,I support Andrew 100% in his actions.
Friends and family will remain long after a playing career is finished.
My advice to him? Avoid placing yourself in those situations.
I have no intention of revisiting this topic, and have been loathe to give this issue any more oxygen, moronic club administrators can fuel the media.

Oh,and for those who imagined a man to man verbal dressing down, the players were advised of their penalties via text message.

Thanks for those insights DOA - but I have to agree with only one point you make - "Avoid placing yourself in those situations." These players are supposed to be professional footballers and get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to perform at an elite level. Not bad for blokes in their early 20's.

Playing AFL football is a privilege. Don't abuse it. That is all I'll say on this whole debacle.

What a sorry saga this has become for the CFC.
I'm sure most other clubs had piss ups to celebrate the end of the season but unfortunately, the behaviour of our players allowed this to become a media event. It was always going to become an AFL issue from that point.
As for DOA's post, I admire his loyalty but his post disappoints me. Firstly, yes it is important to look after your mates but it is more important to make measured decisions based upon common sense. If Houlihan was making a flower of himself and impacting upon the expectations of the other paying customers of Crown, security had every right to intervene.
The "looking after your mates" defence could have been used by Heath Shaw with Didak and many other AFL players in unsavoury incidents. It's not a reason. It's a self justifying excuse.

Secondly, the comments about "moronic club administrators" and divulging what appears to be incorrect information about how the suspended players were informed by the club disappoints.
Lets be straight here. I'm happy to give the club a slap when it requires it but administrators and hiearchy shouldn't have the heat deflected to them. The players screwed up. They embarrassed the club and as a consequence, embarrassed the sponsors, supporters and everyone else associated with their actions.
Attempting to justify or deflect instead of accepting responsibility gives me no confidence that lessons have been learnt.

I back the clubs actions 100% in how they dealt with Fevola and now this incident. Lets hope it all moves on in a positive manner and we can look forward to a fruitful season.

DOA, would Houlihan have walked around the Promenade in his underwear if he was sober? I doubt it hence any story linking alchohol is relevant IMO.

If the players were informed via text message then our administration is a @#$%&! joke.
